Press Announcements

Scandal Rocked Clams Go 1-1 in Championship Series

The Clams called an impromptu press conference this afternoon to share the news that Campioni, Álvarez and Saleas would not dress for the evening’s game. The trio was arrested last night on charges of possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest when a state trooper pulled them over for driving erratically on state road 23. They were allegedly driving north in the southbound lane when a concerned motorist called 911. The police report stated that Campioni kept repeating “Come on ociffer. I’m sotally tober.” The pot was found in Álvarez’s mouth. It was estimated that he had already eaten five ounces when officers noticed him. Saleas tried to run back to Dundee and was stopped only after officers chased him down in a motorcycle and used a taser. After Álvarez had his stomach pumped and the three sobered up, they were bailed out. Press caught them as they left the jail surrounded by the teams’ lawyers. They all declined to comment. But as he climbed into his Escalade, Campioni shouted over his shoulder, “You gotta fight for your right to party!” Coach Simon said in the press conference that the three would serve a one-game suspension and that more consequences would be decided on in the off-season.

The Clams lost tonight’s game. Even though they out-rebounded Wok Style and hit 21-28 from the foul line, they could not overcome a miserable 32% shooting from the field. Some bright spots in the loss were Christiansson’s first double-double in league play of the season and Smith’s near miss with 10 rebounds and 9 assists. But look for better things from the Clams in Sunday's exciting, winner-take-all final game of the League V.7 Championship Series.
