From Farm Fields to First League - The Rise of the Farmers
Posted on 4/23/2025
In late 2022, a group of old farmers from the tiny town of Dondel (population: under 110) took a shot—literally—at basketball. BBC Dondel started in the second league of the Nations of Europe, struggled early on, and quickly realized that youth development was the key to survival.
After a brief stint in the third league, some hard-fought battles, and a return to the second, BBC Dondel finally broke through—earning its first-ever promotion to the first league. Facing top-tier competition, the team leaned on the next generation: Lebon, Bourcier, Verbesselt, and Waltner—now local heroes.
Youth stars fused with seasoned veterans, creating a formidable squad. Lebon, the league’s top scorer, even secured national team appearance,, proving that Dondel’s dream was no fluke.
From farmlands to the first league, BBC Dondel isn’t just a basketball team—it’s proof that determination trumps size.
