Racers Unveil New Colors, Logo

OMAHA - The Omaha Racers unveiled their new look today, changing their primary color from blue to red, and their logo from a racehorse to a flaming letter O.

Asked for the reasons behind the radical change, team owner Jerry Midwest said "Honestly, I thought the horse thing was a bit lame. And this is Nebraska. Nebraskans love red."

Still, the change met with some resistance at first. "Racers" is the traditional nickname of Omaha's professional basketball teams. The name takes its roots in the Aksarben Racetrack, where the team once played. It was this backstory that inspired the BuzzerBeater franchise's name and first logo.

By retaining the nickname, Jerry Midwest hopes to retain the team's tie to Omaha history. He considered changing the team name to Omaha Red Racers, but rejected it because it sounded "too communist."

The team will wear the new uniforms for the first time tonight, against Raleigh Rebels.
