Press Announcements

Racers acquire Shak

OMAHA - No, not that Shaq.

The Omaha Racers have acquired Israeli small forward Ofir "Shak" Shakrooka in a $250,000 transfer from Lithuanian club Vilniaus Lietuvos Rytas Junior.

When asked how he felt about moving to the United States, Shakrooka said "אותיות עברית אקראיים".

The move cast doubt on the futures of three other Racers: Clarence Scott, Morris Choate, and Cristian Miguel Bracco.

Scott, the Racers' first draft pick two season ago, lost his starting position to import Almir Zelezinger, and has seen little playing time since. He is rumored to be a transfer candidate, but he'll always be remembered in Omaha for his clutch game-winning shot in the Racers' Season 9 cup run.

Choate, a hard-working fan favorite who produced points far beyond what his talent level suggested, also struggled to get on the court once the Racers settled on a 7-man rotation of Engin Pala, Ramon Miner, Bracco, Zelezinger, Bob Booth, Hidacio Charino, and Kenny Switzer. He's only 20, but his role with the team is a mystery.

Argentine import Bracco led the team's Division V championship run last season, and was the team's second-most productive scorer after Zelezinger, but turns 35 this offseason. The Racers may be easing him into a sixth-man role, perhaps with Shakrooka as the starter; the Racers brought Bracco off the bench when they used a three-guard lineup at times last season.
