Hi everyone. I assume that 23zone has been adjusted as well as box and one defenses but hasnt been discussed here. I would like to know your opinions on it now.

Until today it was useless tactic mostly becose of number of open shots it produced for opponent. So even if it pushed oppponents shot rate to "guards", bigs still had plenty inside shots - open ones (easy). So its only benefit was rebounds boost.

Now, it seems that number of open shots has been greatly reduced so it looks like a working thing (at least against against iniside teams).

BUT, what i dont like about it (in my final game) is:
(119535118)

1) even though my opponent played 2-3zone and i played motion my guards were terrible outside scorers. PG 3/14; SG 3/11.. Lets see the stats:

myPG ag oppPG 2/3 (looks good here even myJR>hisOD) myPG is +42 TSP!
myPG ag oppSF 1/5 (myJS vs oppOD = +2; myJR vs oppOD = -2) myPG is +23TSP!
myPG ag oppC 0/1 (blocked while my IS vs oppID =+2, vs oppSB=+9) myPG is +32 TSP!
myPG open shots 0/5!

mySG ag oppPG 0/2 (myJS vs oppOD = +5; myJR vs oppOD = -1) +32TSP!
mySG ag oppSF 1/1 (myJS vs oppOD = +6; myJR vs oppOD = 0) +13TSP
mySG ag oppPF 1/1 (myJS vs oppOD = +10; myJR vs oppOD =+4) +22TSP
mySG open shots 0/6!

My enthusiasm is same, our attitude was same. I played away POCT.

It is just one game but i would expect much higher efficiency to my guards. They are different galaxy players to compare to opponent ones.

So my question is - isnt 23zone suddenly overrated? Not to compare to previous shi*y one but generally? How about those open shots. Are we still there? When open shots are going to be adjusted?

Any opinions are welcome.

PS:I would like to have all tactical options at pretty same level (all zones working good).

Feel free to go through the posts here (313248.74) and express your opinion on the tactical changes as well.

I personally believe 2-3 has now become a plausible tactical choice, under the right circumstances ofc. Box and one defenses seem to be working better too. We finally have some usable tactical diversity which needs to be explored in the seasons to come.

2-3 zone definitely works better against outside shots. I studied a few games in my league and the teams who played it performed well overall. It is much much better than the useless tactic it used to be. Im pretty sure you can stop or at least minimize the effect of one sided, exclusively inside oriented teams, especially the ones that constantly play look inside

I agree 100%. And, as I said in another thread, it is important to point out that we have not yet had the time to "create" players/teams built in order to specifically utilize that particular defense tactic. That's why I believe it is immensely important not to make any further "improvements" to 2-3, at least not at this time. It looks promising enough to me right now.

just curious, what player/team built do you have in mind to take advantage of a 2-3 zone?

as things currently stands, I have my doubts about the ceiling of 2-3 zone, but am curious about everyone's opinions

Agree.

Usually 2-3 Zone is used when the opponent's inside is strong, and your inside is relatively weak.
If the opponent outside is also strong, their guards will have higher accuarcy in outside shot.
But the opponent outside is not as strong , and your outside skills is strong (this is most of the case), the opponent's guards also do not seem to perform better, but the opponent will dominate you less in inside in this case. That's the effectiveness of the 2-3 Zone.

If you have a poor OD, they will have more open shot ( and higher conversion rate, but the open shot scored or not just depends on the probability)

This is only my observation, it may be not correct. If that is the case, please correct it.
