I was trying to make registering for an election a more "intentional" action, instead of having any random using registering themselves because they saw the (!).
In Spain we have had only one candidate for the first time ever, so it seems it didn't work here as expected.
I haven't ever seen random candidates as a problem.

Just a cosmetic issue, really but when I select past election results the ( ! ) appears in the menu:



Easy to fix, I suppose.
