Jordan: Hey Coach, tell us about the off season.
Coach Wem: Hi Mike. Well, we have been working our tails off. Varga has been a really nice pickup for this team. He has gelled very well. Raphie has continued to improved, even in his relatively old age. He is still a beast.
Jordan: How are the Shah brothers coming along?
Coach Wem: We are really impressed with both. Clyde is learning to play at this level and has some great guys to learn from. He and Mills are going after it every day in practice; its fun to watch the matchup. Seth is so strong. He has skills, even at his age, that our other big men just didnt have. He needs to continue his improvements in inside D and rebounding. I think, if he plays hard enough, Seth could be an All-Star in a year or two.
Jordan: Coach Wem, this is a tough question, but I have to ask it. Can you ever get your team out of Div IV.62?
Coach Wem: Thanks for asking, Mike. I think tonights game will tell us a lot about where we are at. G. Jr is tough. They have pretty much owned us. Its time to see of the off season upgrades will pay off, or not. I think one thing is for sure.. we do not, uh, um, well.. start off 1-4 like we did last year. I would say our team is pretty focused on getting off on the right foot. I do believe, that for a stretch in the middle of the season last year, that we were the best team in the league. I think we rattled off like 11 or 12 straight league wins. We were able to do that with an up-tempo offense and a defense that got steadily better as the season went on. Near the end.. I think we just ran up against better teams. Gotta give credit to Abra, G. Jr. and Lengends on our side of the bracket. Those guys can all just flat out play the game. So.... back to the question.. I think we will give some of the top teams in this league fits. Can we win it all? Dunno. I know our guys are juiced to give it a run, though.
Jordan: How is Freddie doing?
Coach Wem: Freddie has been awesome. He understands his now reduced role in our offense, and has really accepted that.. and has worked hard to bring the other big men along in training. He and Fitzgerald have a great working relationship and friendship.
Jordan: Who is the team to beat.. other than your team, of course?
Coach Wem: Gosh, Mike.. where do you start? Cranky is the front runner, IMHO. How can you possibly, however.. uh.. um.. look past all the others? UCONN.. G. Jr... Prov... Lengends.. wow.. then you got the new teams and you really dont know where they stand because you really havent seen them real time yet, only on game film. There are two of the new teams in our league that are tough. We will be keeping our eyes on them for sure.
Jordan: Any other comments, Coach?
Coach Wem: Well.. first.. I gotta give you props for getting back "in the game" with your presence in NBA2K11.. Man.. I love that game! Second.. I just want to give a quick shout out to my buddy and mentor, Indianapolis Hawks. Coach E has been awesome to work with. Also.. gotta say hello to my buddies, Bay Harbor Warriors who is really doing a great job with his team.. And my buddy Black Frogs, who.. I think.. will be making a trip to Div IV pretty soon.
