Press Announcements

Changing of the guard

It has been a honor to serve the RSA u21 for the last six seasons. Thanks to all for the support and efforts made to improve the product and to not only build for the u21 but also for the senior springboks.

We have had some fine players pass through the pipeline such as Fabian Poll, Montsho Mthebe, Sean Dunker, and Kasiya Mbazia who have all gained spots for the national team. And we cannot forget the contributions along the way of players like Kefentse Solomons, Lebohang Mbata, Jabulani Makeba, and last but not least, in fact first (in terms of points scored lifetime) Siphiwe Mamoepa, all of which are enjoying fine careers and who may still grace the national stage as well.

I want to thank the great managers such as Crazy Bob, Leslie, Sandy and Ebene who show such great support to both squads. Your positive vibes and energy have meant a lot. Thanks for letting me be part of the Springbok family.

Lastly let us look back at the legacy the Lambini regime will leave behind, Unfortunately I could never claim the African Championship but I did cobble together enough victories to claim the top spot for all time wins. Also the top two all time scorers and the 9th all time scorer were from the Lambini era. Along with three of the top five individual season scoring marks. And Mampoepa holds 4 of the top 10 all time single game scoring records. So the highlights were plenty, and it was a pleasure to provide them.

The time however has come to move on, to make room for someone else to guide the springbok ship. And that man without a doubt is my fellow American compatriot A Warrior who not only is someone with the knowledge and skill to steer things in the right direction but who is also heavily investing in the players as well. The one thing I felt that kept us from getting gold in the continent and better competing on a international level was because Egypt specifically had such a farm system built into their genetic makeup that they could outstrip what we were trying to go from a grassroots level. Well Warrior is someone who is making that investment, and who I think will garner similar if not better results. But there will still be plenty of room for the home managers to fashion players to matriculate through the process and I feel that the combination of the two will make for quite a potent combination.

The baby boks will return many key pieces next season, and I feel a breakthrough is at hand, I hope you let Warrior guide you through the process. But I also know that in country managers such as Ebene, Sandy, Bob and Leslie are all also quite capable of taking this to the next level. And no matter who is at the helm I wish smooth sailing going forward.
