Playoff time is here! The most exciting time of the season with so much to play for. Here’s a quick summary of the EBBL matchups

Playoffs
MexicanTaxiDriver vs Gauson
Should be a straight forward victory for top seed MTD, even with an injury to their starting C. Gauson has a small roster and bad game shape so shouldn’t really cause an upset here.

Borac Basket vs Porzigod
At full strength this could’ve been an excellent game, but Porzigod are missing one of their bigs. That plus home court advantage makes Borac the favourites.

Mortal Wombats vs Gophers
Mortal Wombats start their quest for a 3rd title in 4 seasons with game against Gophers. With Gophers going CT in the last game this should be a breeze for the Wombats.

Team Nook vs Bromley-by-Bow
A repeat of the cup final in the first round of the playoffs, and with injuries and sale of Morozas, BBB are in a worse situation this time round. Team Nook are looking to go back to back for the title but face a tough battle from the 2nd seed.

Relegation Series
Isca Centurians vs Bournemouth Drunkers
Isca spent most of the season in the playoff spots, until late in the season where 3 losses in 5 games caused them to fall out. But their strong defence should cause too many issues for Drunkers over this series.

Reds BC vs BC Black Dragons
Reds go in to this series as heavy favourites with home court advantage. Black Dragons do have threats in their team, but have had a tough season.

Arsenal 98 vs MILF Hunters
Probably the most interesting relegation series. A 1-point win against MTD for Arsenal got them home court advantage which will be big for them. MILF are also going to be without one of their top scorers through injury.

Here’s the rankings of the top seeded division 2 teams. BC Bloosa took top spot and guaranteed their place in the EBBL next season, but should they win their playoffs there are a few other teams in the mix.

First round and relegation series game 1s done. Here’s how they went:

MexicanTaxiDriver vs Gauson
As expected Gauson’s short roster wasn’t able to compete with MTD. Convincing win for MTD who are looking to make their first finals appearance.

Borac Basket vs Porzigod
Despite the injury and less effort, Porzigod put up a good fight against Borac but fell short. Interesting choice to go with less effort given the injury and being away, but nearly came off for them.

MTD vs Borac in the conference finals. Both teams have never made it to the EBBL finals before so both teams will no doubt be determined to make it there. MTD probably favourites due to home court advantage and Borac using more effort in the first round game.

Mortal Wombats vs Gophers
The monster that is Gerlinskas dominated for Mortal Wombats with 26pts in 29mins. A comfortable win for the top seeds as expected.

Team Nook vs Bromley-by-Bow
Weakened by injuries, BBB couldn’t put up much of a fight vs Team Nook who comfortably advance.

Mortal Wombats and Team Nook face off for the 5th consecutive season in the conference finals, with the record 2-2 in those games. Wombats maybe favourites due to HCA, but Nook have won 6 out of the last 7 games in all competitions. Who’s going to win game 5 and take the lead in the series?!

Isca Centurians vs Bournemouth Drunkers
Game 1 went to Isca who dominated the game after a slow start, winning the 2nd and 3rd quarters 57-23. Will be interesting to see if they can pull off the 2-0 sweep or if Drunkers can break down Isca’s strong defence.

Reds BC vs BC Black Dragons
36pts from new NT star Duguid wasn’t enough for the Black Dragons to get a game 1 upset. They’re up against it now after using more effort in game 1.

MILF Hunters vs Arsenal 98
Comfortable 23 point win for the 3-time EBBL champions, but they did have HCA and used more effort. MILF will be hoping that they can use their HCA and saved enthusiasm to claim game 2.

Two top seeds in division 2 were eliminated in the first round, Kauno Zalgiris and Cramlington Showboaters. Both teams are unable to promote through their records as both II.1 top seeds have better records than them and obviously can’t both win their playoffs.

Conference finals done, and the finals are set!

MexicanTaxiDriver vs Borac Basket
MTD decided to try and save enthusiasm by using GDP, and it backfired as Borac Basket pulled off the overtime win! Borac Basket advance to their first EBBL finals!

Mortal Wombats vs Team Nook
It was Mortal Womabts to won the battle against Team Nook as they were tactically set up. Kammu got the better of Arrows with a correct GDP guess and forcing an incorrect guess for Arrows. The Womabts head on to the finals, aiming for their 3rd title in 4 seasons.

Mortal Wombats will be definite favourites going in to the finals with HCA, more enthusiasm and Borac showing all his players’ skills. Would take something remarkable for Borac to pull off an upset.

Isca Centurians vs Bournemouth Drunkers
Isca cemented their EBBL status with a resounding game 2 win over Drunkers. Drunkers struggled to score, only managing 115 points over the 2 games. Drunkers will demote to division 2.

Reds BC vs BC Black Dragons
Reds BC has also retained their EBBL position with a 2 game sweep over Black Dragons. In contrast to the Isca/Drunkers series, this series was full of scoring, with 470 points scored over the two games. BC Black Dragons will demote to division 2.

MILF Hunters vs Arsenal 98
Perhaps the most surprising sweep saw Arsenal 98 defeat MILF Hunters. MILF went with less effort in this game, presumably to try and make a game 3 win more achievable, but went with the obvious offence which allowed Bergkamp to get the double GDP which in combination got them the win. MILF Hunters will demote to division 2.

In the division 2 playoffs, 3rd overall ranked BlackRockWhale were eliminated, putting the in prime spot to earn the final promotion spot. Scunthorpe Devils and Los Mikitos were also eliminated and are out of contention for promotion. Only 3 #1 seeds remain, and two of those in the same division.
