I hate relegation playoffs. So much worse than the promotion games. Having relegated in Utopia, I don't want the same to happen here. But equally I don't much care for sending another team down, necessary as it is.

Good luck to all those with meaningful games left.

The first round of the playoffs are done and dusted. Some convincing wins and some shock losses throughout. Here is a round up of the first round.

EBBL
Bournemouth Drunkers defeated Tide of Fire 80-68 to progress through to the conference finals in their first season back in the EBBL. C Eddy Schwerdtfeger had a monster double double with 19 points and 23 rebounds. It’s not all good news for the Drunkers though as PF Amaranto Marquez left the game with an injury and looks likely to miss the next game.

They will face Arsenal 98 after they were able to get past Optic Fibres 75-63 in a low scoring affair. Fibres stars Needham and Salomone struggled to score combining to shoot 7-38.

Despite missing star player Adrian Honarmand, Hope Springs were able to beat Bromley-By-Bow 99-73 with all 5 starters scoring in double figures. Hope Springs are on course to continue their run of 3 straight finals appearances.

They will have to get past London Whales to make it four in a row as the Whales made an incredible 4th quarter comeback to beat Team Nook 80-79. It was SG Jason Ewing that hit a 3 pointer to complete the comeback with 20 seconds to go, after being down 13 points at the start of the quarter. Nook’s backup forward Bram Voshol missed a potential game winner at the buzzer.

Leeds City Ballers held Galaxy Walkers to 28% shooting as they breezed to a game 1 win on their relegation series. Daryl Tracey and Magdaleno Banuelos combined for 43 points in the victory.

34 points on 14-22 shooting from SF Ioannis Nikoloyiannis led St Purple & Greens to a 107-68 victory over Camden Kings. Camden’s survival hangs in the balance and they will need a much better performance in game 2.

The most interesting relegation series is between Gauson and BC Zalgiris, and that was proven in game 1. A game that was close and high scoring throughout, Gauson were able to save home court advantage winning 125-112 after a 37-27 point final quarter. This series could still go either way.

Division II.1
The division II.1 big 8 was the place for upsets as both the 1st and 2nd seed teams lost. Top seed Los Mikitos were defeated by Tommicat Cats 98-95. It was PF Jim Bolin who hit a game winning 3 pointer to cause the upset.

Allll Stars we’re comfortable in their win as they won 115-93 despite star SF Fu Eng Hock leaving the game early through injury. It was backup SF Luigi Arno who top scored with 20 points.

Allll Stars will host Tommicat Cats in the conference finals. The three seed won the last matchup by 50 points so will have confidence going in to the game.

6 Detroit Pistons I players scored in double digits as they beat Toral Castro 114-96 to advance to the conference finals.

They will face 2nd seed Follow_me as they were able to comfortably beat Hurstead Hustlers 118-103 behind a combined 51 points from their guard duo.

Division II.2
Bethnal Green Erks were able to overcome a 38 point game from Gophers PG Dante McShane to win 107-90 and advance to the conference finals. They were led by SG Leon Cruickshank with 24 points.

Lancaster City dominated 2nd seed Porzigod 88-54 to reach the conference finals. Lancaster’s perimeter trio of Dai Kunzheng, Svyatoslav Senichev and Xim Say Hao combined for 69 of their 88 points.

Lancaster City upset Bethnal Green Erks in the playoffs last season, could we see another upset on the cards?

The T20 Crickters had 23 assists on 36 made baskets as they beat Lisaball 94-77 to move on to the conference finals. SG Tomasz Borko had a efficient 34 points shooting 13-21 FG(4-6 3FG).

They will face off against Borac Basket in the conference finals as they beat Cambois Donkeys 111-87. SF Ronnie Halley had a massive 37 points on 16-27 shooting. But his performance was overshadowed by NT star Bart McCarthy-Leavy who went off for 62 points and 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

Division II.3
Div II.3
MexicanTaxiDriver comfortably overcame Alaus Putytes 99-72 to maintain their unbeaten season and advance to the conference finals. PF Joni Polso top scored with 27 points.

Kauno Zalgiris 7 BC also advance to the conference finals as they defeated MILF Hunters 105-84 behind 27 points for SF Victor Las Heras Perez.

Kauno Zalgiris will be looking to end MexicanTaxiDriver’s uneaten season.

BC Snaiperiai used a 38-10 third quarter to blowout the 4th seeded Bc Emigrantas 100-65.

Cup semi finalist PONTIOPOYLA also cruised to a round one win, beating Free Agent 113-91 as 7 players scored double figures.

PONTIOPOYLA failed to beat BC Snaiperiai in the league, but their single game record has been good this season and will look to reach the finals.

Division II.4
SF Ian Quigley shot 8-11FG (4-4 3FG) as CWA Fury outplayed EmigrantaiTM to progress to the conference finals.

Pleven North End’s fire sale looks to have been costly as they were knocked out of the playoffs 111-106 by OLYMPIACOS 1925. Perimeter play was dominant as OLYMPIACOS’a trio combined for 80 points while Pleven’s trio scored a total 93 points.

CWA Fury’s EBBL quest continues against OLYMPIACOS 1925 in the conference finals.

In the big 8, top seed BC Newmarketas beat Trefas team 111-94 behind 31 points for SF Todd Jefferson who scored at will.

The most interesting playoff game saw 2nd seed Whetstone Wizards battle Mortal Wombats with the home team coming out on top in overtime 114-106. PF Gabi Tricart somehow managed to pass to himself as he hit a game tying 3 pointer with 10 seconds left before blocking the final Wombats attempt to send the game to overtime. 4 Wizard’s players contributed double double performances as they dominated the boards 67-38, which is probably the reason they were able to come out on top.

Both regular season games between Newmarketas and Wizards went to the home side, we’ll see if the Newmarketas can use home court advantage to win again.

Maybe it was a pass off the backboard all the way to the behind the arc to himself and then he hit the 3, followed up by getting a clutch block. Sounds like an amazing play!

I was just checking to see if they was a last second shot and saw it and I was confused as to how a player managed to assist themself for a 3!

Some strong teams in III this season, here's a quick breakdown of what to look for:

To Watch:

III.1 Ipswich WinterWolves vs EasilyBeatables FC - by far the toughest III division, although next season when active teams are grouped together that might change. All four teams in the previous round looked strong, any of them would have looked good in the finals or in II.

III.2 BOY_LONDON vs Isca Centurions - BOY_LONDON are undefeated, this is Isca's 4th play-off final.

III.3 Wigan Carpenters vs Zalia - Balta - Wigan are undefeated and won the league match-up comfortably, but both teams look competitive.

III.5 Eltisley Eclipse vs Triximos Tricks - Eclipse looked stronger in the conference final, but Tricks have homecourt and won the regular season game.

III.8 BC Maxilla X vs Leicester Corinthians - This could be a tight match-up. The regular season game was decided in favour of the away team Maxilla by 8pts, but they used more effort. Maxilla will have homecourt in the finals.

Maybe Watch:

III.7 Bc Giants vs WITH OR WITHOUT - The Giants look stronger and won the regular season game, but it's possible WITH OR WITHOUT can make it competitive.

III.9 Team Fusio vs Spartan Warriors - Fusio look stronger, but the regular season game was close.

III.11 Paxsons vs KingsBC - Paxsons are putting up great ratings but haven't logged in for a few weeks. KingsBC had a nice victory away from home in the previous round.

III.16 North Walsham Vipers vs Royal LCY - Royal LCY look much stronger and won by a blowout in the regular season.

Other one-sided games:

III.4 BB London 22 vs Pillow B.C.
III.6 UnColto vs Always First
III.10 Vi-kings vs Cramlington Showboaters (Vi-kings are a bot team, best of luck to them!)
III.12 Birmingham High vs The Table Toppers
III.13 Wind City Ballers vs Mixanostasio BC
III.14 BC Black Dragons vs East Hoathly Nefertitis (East Hoathly has never been an active team, good luck!)
III.15 Dunoon Defenders vs Magnolia Pambansang Manok

Conference finals done and dusted. Here’s what went down!

EBBL
A huge 43 point performance from Emil Lukavsky propelled Arsenal 98 to the EBBL finals for the second season in a row. Andriy Novoselskiy had a strong 27 points on 50% shooting but it wasn’t enough. The reigning champions will have home court advantage in the finals.

The great 8 conference finals saw London Whales again finish the game strong as they scored 45 points in the 4th quarter to end Hope Springs’ run of 3 consecutive final appearances. London Whales had 6 of 7 players score in double figures as they dominated the Hope Springs bench players in the win.

The regular season game between the two finalists went the way of Arsenal 98 by 5 points despite London Whales having the home court advantage. We will hopefully see a close series.

For the first time since season 52, we will see a team that wasn’t a #1 seed reach the final, this season neither team in the final are a #1 seed. Add to that, we will see a non-#1 seeded team win the EBBL for the first time since season 46.

Leeds City Ballers confirmed their place in the EBBL next season with another comfortable win against Galaxy Walkers 107-69. Magdaleno Banuelos had 35 points on 14-21 shooting in the win.

St Purple&Greens also retained their position in the EBBL as they used a strange lineup but was still able to come out on top over Camden Kings 90-65.

We will have one deciding game 3 relegation game as BC Zalgiris beat Gauson 107-89 to tie the series at 1-1. Good luck to both teams.
