You're absolutely right, Gauson is now showing properly in II.1.

@ all: Overall yes I do agree that the rankings aren't perfect, and may not even help much in determining who on a given night is the stronger team. Looking back over the last several seasons though, I can't disagree strongly that someones performance has them set way out of place.

That's pretty interesting. I have to say that when you put the ranking in a list like that a number of obvious misrankings pop up like elmacca pointed out.

The first four are quite accurate :) Only I stand zero chance to win against he first two in the long run. Also I don't fancy my chances against the Mashers...

sorry. someone has to be critical :P

I think the list is not very realistic, without pointing towards certain teams, because I dont want to hurt anyones feelings, there are quite a few teams higher than I am ranked that I would like to play against every night off the week, even at their arena. Our div II.1 is by far the hardest off all div.II leagues and partly due to this, I have been knocked out off the NT 2 seasons in a row very early. Being 23rd or whatever I am in the country standings, is about 10 places I would reckon off the real strength off my team. I might have looked wrong, but retto fives team doesnt make it in the top 25 at all, like some other teams do make it, that I am sure he has beaten too.

I think we can all conclude that recent seasons and especially NT runs count heaviest toward the country ranking standings...

I'd agree with much of what you say there. The rankings aren't really a declaration of the actual strength of each team. They're indicative of how these teams have placed at seasons end when it's all tallied up though.

Obviously playing in the EBBL will put someone ahead of most teams in division II. And I think rightly so. That doesn't mean that some DII teams can't beat many of the teams in the EBBL on a given day, but rather the EBBL teams are recognized for playing every game against a higher level of competition on average.

Taking your team as an example, Astragoth. I'd say you've got a stronger club than several of the people ahead of you, but you haven't actually finished ahead of them in the National Tournament (1 QF appearance) or league standings (1 trip to DII finals). I can't say I'm suprised about the rankings anywhere so much as it's made me confirm or re-think my thoughts on some of the teams in the list.

I haven't looked through the rest of the teams yet, but with Faster Pussycats tournament win they have earned the ranking of #2 in England! So again, congratulations to elboss!

Updated rankings! Instead of keeping track of what titles each team has won I'm going to just list the number of what I'll call "Major Titles". Those would be an EBBL or National Tournament championship.

Current ranking - Old Ranking - Team (Current Ranking) [Major titles]
1 - 1 SwindonBulls (EBBL Big 8, 1st) [3]
2 - 2 Da Bombs (EBBL Big 8, 2nd) [3]
3 - 3 Faster Pussycats (EBBL Great 8, 2nd) [3]
4 - 4 Hackney Marshes (EBBL Great 8, 1st) [1]
5 - 9 bc ergelis (EBBL Big 8, 4th)
6 - 5 Fat Lever Leechers (EBBL Big 8, 7th)
7 - 7 Los Mikitos (EBBL Big 8, 5th)
8 - 12 Talon Tomahawks (EBBL Big 8, 3rd)
9 - 6 Alperton BC (EBBL Great 8, 4th)
10 - 13 BoloTowers (EBBL Great 8, 5th)
11 - 15 Tatatallfella (EBBL Big 8, 6th)
12 - 14 Gauson (II.1 Big 8, 1st)
13 - 17 London Sonics (EBBL Great 8, 3rd)
14 - 11 Can't Dunk for Toffee (EBBL Great 8, 6th)
15 - 22 Moomins (EBBL Great 8, 7th)
16 - 16 Vitamin Power (II.4 Great 8, 1st)
17 - 18 Wigston Werewolves (II.2 Great 8, 1st)
18 - NR Idle View Eagles (II.1 Great 8, 2nd) - Formerly Retto Five
19 - 20 freakstream (II.2 Great 8, 2nd)
20 - 21 Pinoy Ballers Inc (II.1 Big 8, 2nd)
21 - 19 Conclave Clusters (II.3 Big 8, 1st)
22 - 25 The Jaxx's (EBBL Great 8, 8th)
23 - NR Ocean Colour (II.1 Great 8, 1st)
24 - NR Whetstone Wizards (EBBL Big 8, 8th)
25 - 24 Granton Giants (II.3 Great 8, 2nd)

OUT: RTM Stars (formerly 8th, now bot)
Spartak MSK (formerly 10th, now bot)
Northern Allstars (formerly 23rd)

good effort. But they're still flawed rankings. My lot are 5th or 6th, possibly 4th, when we're trying.

I can understand you feel your squad is ranked lower than they deserve.. I'm sure several teams feel that way.

Remember though that the rankings aren't necessarily stating that one team is better than another on the court. They're an indication of how teams have placed in the league structure and the tournament. Your squad may be able to beat the teams ahead of you, but the teams ranked higher have finished higher at the end of the season. Saying you're team should be ranked in the top 4 I cannot agree with I'm sorry to say.

The top 4 teams are the clubs that have won the EBBL and national tournament titles. All 4 have finished in the top 3 of their EBBL division for each of the last several seasons, an accomplishment your squad has yet to achieve more than once. The top 4 teams have regularly finished ahead of you in the national tournament as well.

This is not meant to belittle your squad, I for one hate seeing Tatatallfella on my schedule twice a season. It's just a statement that while your team may be able to beat many of the teams ahead of you, even regularly, those teams have had better finishes in the competitions that matter for these rankings (league and tournament). Possibly it comes down to your statement of "when we're trying", I'm not sure.. maybe the squads ahead of you have simply tried harder to finish higher and the rankings reflect that?

I'm still trying to understand exactly how the rankings come about so if you have a difference of opinion on this, maybe you could shed some light on it?

I think the playoffs get a lot of weight. The season my lot finished 5th in the division, we were ranked 8 before the playoffs and 13 afterwards, it was when the rankings were first published.

4th is a thought more than a claim, you're probably right. We're certainly not good enough to mess around with the line up as much as I've been doing this season, as I got my trainees slightly out of sync.

I still think my lot are the 5th best team in the EBBL but I don't have a serious problem with the rankings, below 3 it's all pretty tight, with 4 probably being rightly a notch higher than the rest.

Anyway, as I always said, I'll try and win it in Season 13, so we'll see how I do.
