It's to ensure competitive balance. That'd be like giving candy to a kid who's already won the prize.

You're "bonus" is by virtue of the fans coming into your arena to watch the champion team ball out on the court. You get more season ticket holders and can (if you do it smartly of course) set higher prices than your average League 1 level team, at least for about the first half of the subsequent regular season.

Bonuses are given to lower league teams advancing to a higher dvision as a way to help them get acclimated to the tougher terrain of said higher league. Whether they use it to buy more players, upgrade their arena, or infrastructure, its up to them how they handle their money. But the penultimate goal the game sought for was to help those newly promoted teams out a bit to help level the playing field due to those incumbent league teams A) being more established and were able to foster more lucrative salaries and payroll, thus also having ability in higher division to rake in more Sales revenue via Arena sales and Merchandising.

I tried to put one of my players on the transfer list, only to find that he was considered as a true star by the fans. He is not Luka and I'm not Nico, but still, can I somehow manipulate his status. I'm thinking to not play him in league/cup games. Will that work?

Players that you receive from completing the tutorial will have a star next to their profile picture, and you're restricted from selling them on the market for your first 28 weeks (which coincides with the duration of your immunity to the Player Salaries Floor in your league).

Nothing you can do to remove that designation other than wait. If you need to straight up fire the player for economic reasons you can, but in general you're better off if you can keep them - they're guaranteed to be better than your "normally generated" starter players and provide more merchandise bonuses than a player of a similar salary / skill set purchased off the transfer list, because they're homegrown players (they started their career on your team).

(First win) My last league game: (135216024)

My line-up for the game was:
PG --- N. Lidikevicius --- K. Ustinov ------ K. Ustinov
SG --- M. Mussche ------ M. Mussche --- M. Mussche
SF --- O. Kuta ----------- O. Kuta --------- O. Kuta
PF --- G. Tibaldi --------- G. Tibaldi ------ G. Tibaldi
C ---- F. Whatley -------- F. Whatley ----- F. Whatley

And the instructions were:
Subs: Follow Depth Chart
Foul Trouble: Let them play

With 2:17 left to play in the 3rd this happened:
3 -------- 2:17 -------- 43 - 75 -------- Substitution at C: N. Lidikevicius (H) for F. Whatley (H).

Why did the sub happen?
From the Guide To BuzzerBeater + FAQ (144856.37)

To force 48 minutes at a position, for a single game, it helps to set your lineup so that it is impossible for your trainee to be substituted out (under normal conditions). If your team is leading by 21 or more points in the 4th quarter, your coach will try to take out all of your starters, regardless of your instructions. With this in mind, for single position training, it is often a good idea to not let your coach have this option. You can stop him by not dressing any extra players for him to put in for your trainee.

Edit: After reading this section (again), I realized that I don't have the Strictly Follow Depth Chart option. I only have: Let Coach Decide, Coach Picks from Depth Chart, Follow Depth Chart and Depth Chart until 4th. Was that the issue? And why did it work perfectly for three players, but not for F. Whatley.

Whatley with 7 had the highest stamina level. Mussche (5), Tibaldi (6), Kuta (4). So the player with the highest stamina level got subbed.
