As I understand it, outside ISO needs a 5 out-lineup to clear out for the player to be successful, and inside ISO needs a 4 out, 1-inside lineup.
Looking at the box scores in hindsight, it looks like Uruguay has some poor OD on their bigs, so a patient with a guard at C/PF and switched for D may have been a good option against them. I haven't followed U21 too much, but I imagine since there's more focus on primaries, that may be the case for many teams.

Yeah for most teams the best players are ones with good primaries (USA, Argentina comes to mind). Uruguay however seems to have way more balanced players, look at their salaries and their DMI for example. Their salaries are low but they have good players. In U21, it's pretty rare to have a big with more than 4-5 OD. More often than not, that's the OD they started with.

A 5-outside lineup is not a good option, offense would benefit from it but you would get crushed on inside defense and rebounds. 3 guards/2bigs is a good ratio for Outside ISO (and 2 guards/3 bigs for Inside ISO). A fourth guard might be stretching it if your opponent has more than 1 good big (as is the case with NTs).
I do agree though that a switched patient could have worked in this case. But then again the game was so close it could have gone either way

Don't worry about it... you tried it, it didn't do well. Isos are just not very predictable. Move on to the next challenge.

Yep all set for tonight's game, I went back to basics for that one! Hopefully it will go better (but you never know...).
But I don't like our chances against the US, Argentina and Venezuela after that. I'll try to spice things up to mess up with these monsters (go and have a look at the US roster...!)
