The discussion about potential is pretty absurd at times. Just like chuck is mentioning is potential pretty much useless at age of 23 and above if salary is below 8000 (later statement my addition).

I would advice the user to despite the debts buy a level 4 trainer (if he has not already a level 5 trainer which I very much doubt) and then buy trainees very cheaply. You can actually get 5 trainees for less than 30000 in total with a salary of around 2500 to 3500. Train them a season or two and they will improve to salaries around 7-8000 and be better trained than a typical such player. You can then either sell the player for 200000-600000 (maybe even more) or keep him and have a very useful player. I know because I trained a 6th man potential from 2500 to 9000 in two seasons myself. A player like this (9301418) will sell for similar money at least according to transfer compare. Even with a huge debt you can afford such money. Then you might instead sack someone else that even might have a higher salary. Even if things is pretty desperate for this manager he can allow himself to do so.

But it is of course preferable to have a high potential 18 year old player with very nicely placed skill to train instead but I but much higher priority on good skills than good potential. I would not buy a player with pitiful or atrocious in an important skill because of high potential as the skill will take very long time to repair.

A very easy solution to the debt problem is to sell the player he just bought for a clear overprice. If he gets $250000 for the player he has not much debt left. Add two more players and there can't be much of a problem left with so low salaries in the team.

whatever you say about potential, the fact is if two player have the same qualities, the higher potential will be sold for more even at age 30. you can call it meaningless but this is the fact. as wage goes up, this patern tends to diminish. i also believe there is no difference between an 18 year old 6th man and 22 year old mvp as neither of them is good choices for long term training.

I think you need to explain this one a bit. Why would I pay more for higher potential at age 30? If anyone is training a guy at that age, they need some sense knocked into their heads.

i am not saying anyone should. this is just how market reacts.

At lower payments I agree that there is a big difference and that people pay too much for potential. But it is mainly newbies that makes this mistake and they have not got enough money to spend $500000 on an old player just because of potential. Even if this user obviously overspent on a high potential player I very much doubt that it is that common that someone will pay as much as $500000 for a useless MVP potential as his player actually is with that age and salary.

And I agree that people overpay for potential. That is the biggest mistake new users does as they tend to believe that potential trains players faster already from start.
