The Philippines opened their Senior NT campaign with a bang as it defeated U.A.E., 126-89, during the curtain raiser of the 43rd season of the Asian Championship tournament.

Reliable veteran Emerson Tapia lead Philippines with a dominant 25 points in just eighteen shots, proving once again his efficiency is just as important as his perennial presence in the Philippine national team.

Combo guard Florian Ignacio happily took advantage of opportunities that Tapia's presence drew, he made 8 of 11 shots from the field to finish with 20 markers while tagging his teammates with seven timely dimes. Backup big man Nonito Inayan came in and made all of his seven shots from the field after Ace Madrigal fouled out in just twenty-two minutes of on-court action. Inayan almost fouled out but was able to carry his own weight and managed to finish the game with 14 points.

The Emiratis were able to trim the lead to eight after Seyed Najjar's one-handed throw-down made it 65-57 with 6:31 left in the third quarter. But that was the closest they could get as the Filipinos drew from their experience and respond with a 16-5 run of their own to keep U.A.E. at a comfortable distance throughout the rest of the game.

Ansari Husseiny lead U.A.E. with 35 huge points for his team but it was not enough to carry the Emiratis who were coming off an 0-8 record from the consolation tournament, they will face off with Hanguk next week.

The Scores:
U.A.E (89)
A. Husseiny 35, Najjar 14, Hajjaji 14, Ibn-Haroun 14, Al-Malky 7, Khoury, 2, Al Oawayran 2, Nasser 2, Sleiman 0, Jaber 0, El Chamid DNP-CD, Yousif DNP-CD.

Philippines (126)
Tapia 25, Ignacio 20, Nisperos 16, Inayan 14, Dorola 13, Dalida 12, Oh 10, Madrigal 9, Carreon 5, Estillore 2, Tenmatay DNP-CD, Caritat DNP-CD

Another one on the win column. India gave us fits but good thing we avoided the upset ax, muntik na din ang SG sayang! Hahaha!

Anyways, up next is Lebanon. Palapit na tayo ng palapit sa real start ng Asia Cup so please keep the GS up. Still looking at the progress of some players (GS and skill-wise) for potential call ups. Lets do this Pinas!

We are now at 3-0 with another win against Lebanon last week. This week will be a bye and we have scheduled a tune-up game against Uruguay. After that will be the start of the true test as we are bound to face Singapore and China consecutively. These next two games will determine where we will be grouped with for the next round.

Please keep on keeping GS up and training your younger players. More potential call ups this coming week. :)

I watched the game coach and it felt great to see the team perform so well against a higher-ranked team that's Singapore. Good luck vs China next week.

nice win boy george

Someone once told me I needed to face fear to get over it, and I thought well why not take a step further and cut my fear into little pieces then set my fear on fire then throw the hot ash of my fear into a lake and then poison the lake. Simple!

We just bumped our heads against The Great Wall. Just shows how big the gap is in terms of talent and how strong the Chinese NT is... πŸ˜₯

If the standings will hold malaki chance that we will finish as the second seed in our bracket. Next week will be the last games for the 1st round at makikita na natin sino mga makakatapat natin sa next rounds. Umpisa na ng tunay na laban. Lets do this! GS up please. 😁
