Hi,

I played BB a few years ago, then started again recently... I have a few big men I am looking to train and was hoping to get some advice on how to train / what to train them in.

For now I'll post one of the players and after I get some advice on how to train him I'll post the rest.

This particular player is causing me a bit of a headache because though I've termed him a "Big Man" I'm really not sure what his best position should be! Theoretically he could play 1 - 5 (with SG being his weakest position given his lack of a jump shot), but so far I've really only tried him out at PF / C.

Is it worth trying to round this guy out or given his average potential should I start investing solely in big man training?

Thanks in advance!

He's 20 already, so I wouldn't bother. You can find tons of good players right after the draft. I mean, I got a decent MVP, listed him at 1k starting price.. and he went for miserable 50k.

Your guy is pretty well rounded now though, so you could train him for a while, could be a useful backup in lower leagues.

How about just training each skill until it pops? Use his sublevels to make him look better, maybe you can even sell him that way.

You could go JR,OD,PA,ID,SB,RB then 1v1 until HA and PA pop, finish with IS and JS

Thanks for the response, so you basically see this guy as a dime a dozen prospect right now? Is it his lower potential or something else?

I'm still trying to figure out what makes a really good prospect, when I purchased this guy I thought he'd be a decent one but I don't really have that much to go off of since my familiarity with the game isn't that high... I think it was his strong handling at his size that led to me pulling the trigger just for the uniqueness (at least in my eyes) of it.

Here's another guy I was looking to train:

Player Data:
Name: To Tee Bon
Age: 21
Height: 6'9''
Potential: Superstar

http://www.buzzerbeater.com/player/35668948/overview.aspx

Jump Shot: Mediocre (5)
Jump Range: Respectable (7)
Outside Defense: Average (6)
Handling: Inept (4)
Driving: Proficient (9)
Passing: Mediocre (5)
Inside Shot: Average 6)
Inside Defense: Average (6)
Rebounding: Proficient (9)
Shotblocking: Proficient (9)
Stamina: Inept (4)
Free Throws: Proficient (9)

I was planning to train this guy more as a traditional big man, but I do wonder if his size will always lead to inefficient scoring.

So I guess same question - is it worth training this guy all-around or should I focus on a few categories to pop in?

Check the transfer list often right after the draft, and you'll sure find some fresh 18/19y players with good starting skills and solid potential, for cheap.

About potential, I would try to find a higher potential guy, because they sell better, but you can still train lower potentials. I pumped my allstar to 116 skills.

About height, it only matters for training speed, taller players train inside skills faster, and shorter players outside skills. It doesn't matter for in-game performance.

Damn, so if a 6'0'' player was shooting against a 6'10'' player from the outside OD is really the only factor that goes into whether or not the 6'0'' player misses?

That's a bit of a buzzkill, but good to know!

Well, the short guy will likely have good OD, and the tall guy will likely have good inside skills. You can train a tall guy to be a point guard, but that would be a waste of time.

However, you will soon realize that quality players have all around good skills. Whatever position you want to train your player for, you'll have to get his secondary skills up as well.

Yes, height only has an impact on training, not on the way they play.

If I was you I'd train these 2 guys. Specifically I'd train ID at C position 48+ minutes for both every week. They are not too old that they won't get pops. I'd just keep training ID, because it's a useful skill, it will train faster than other 'inside' skills since it's quite low for both players and tbh you should spend the money on your arena rather than players if you have a little patience.

Bottom line: train ID at C, keep building the arena and reassess at the end of the season when better trainees may become available at the beginning of next season (so maybe stop building the arena 1 or 2 weeks before the last ticket pricing update, the one before the playoffs, so that you will have some money to spend if the right trainees come along).

Check other threads for arena building suggestions from more experienced managers!

Thanks, I think I've been focusing too much on trying to bring up every category for these two players which has led to me changing training type every week.

I got the same advice from another member, so I think I'll go with the ID strategy for now and then take things from there...

It's funny you mention the arena building, as I was just reading those threads and decided sometime last week that building up my arena will be my goal for the next 1-2 seasons.
