This season, I've had a different player foul out very quickly in several games. Tonight there were two - one in 18 minutes and one in 29 minutes (they were benched for foul trouble but fouled immediately when coming in.) One fouled out in 14 minutes in another game. It's a different player each time, and they don't typically foul often, so I don't think it's the "hidden aggression trait." Most of my players have relatively high def. skills, and my scoring defense is always good. Defensive tactic doesn't seem to matter. Any ideas? Do the refs just hate me?

(My point guard who just fouled out in 18 minutes of play has a 13 OD, and averages 1.0 fouls/game. ??? )

What is their level of stamina?

I think I read if your players foul too mich it's due to a low level of Stamina or Defense

Thanks...but in this case at least, my PG has a stamina of 8 with the OD of 13. Both highest on the team.

I know they foul a lot when matched up with a better player. Still...you can't be much better than a 13. Fouling out in a quarter and a half ridiculous for any reason.

Have a look at my last private league game my player Jean-Loup Monnens fouled out after 18 minutes he has 14 ID/SB , 6 Stamina, and 8 OD

That's really quick for a player with his defensive skills, but it's due to my defensive tactic and the fact that my opponent had a strong center and played inside.

Good point about the tactic. I was playing a 2-3 when my PG fouled out. I can see where an overmatched defender (outside in a 2-3 or inside in a 3-2) would foul more. Though I still think a solid defender fouling out in <20 minutes is crazy.

I'm starting to think M2M is the only defense you should ever use in this game. The game engine is way too extreme.

Well that's not true the problem is that most managers don't have the players to play the defense they play.

For example in a 3-2 you will need a lot of SB at best on all your players because your 3 outside players will comtinuely challenge 3 pointers and make the life hard for a good outside. So the opponent will drive amd try inside shots, here your big guys are important they need strong SB/ID in order to contest this shots, in my case my 2 bigs are maybe not yet ready to play against real strong inside teams.

In a 2-3 you will need too a lot of SB to contest 3's and driving.

Man to man is the easiest tactic to play because your team focuses equally each part of their defense, however in order to be successful you need good secondaries on each player.

Well it happened again. My PG fouled out in 31 minutes vs a 1-11 team. (I was TIE so I know they play worse, but still.) I don't know why he's averaged 1 foul per game all season, and now fouled out early in back to back games. The fouls occurred on drives to the basket, so I guess it's about poor ID and SB.

I suppose I need to spend the next several weeks training my guards in ID. (With the short player and 60% training penalties.) Which means no useful training in primary skills for several weeks to get around this bug.

Which begs the question: if guards must have high ID and SB for the game to function properly, why such a severe penalty in training in these skills?

Your last sentences statement That's a very tricky question, some say yes and some say no.. I think its based on the teams next man id/sb to balance the tactic to perform more than solo, unless we are talking man2man.

Fouls depends on Gs/stamina and few match related things to.. Just remember if you have high Od and low Id and foe has high driving you'll get a quick night from your guards this is pretty much a certain, the solution to that is offensive /defensive bench play.

Guarding driving(players) needs ID more than OD to stop him depending on his driving skills, he will get past the Od everytime . Now a zone can do that( defend the driving), but again this depends on the next man skills in the zone. also the team passing lane defense( keep in mind in zone there no sure solid player to guard, If your team is caught slaking in the zone because they cant match the speed of the driving in the passing lanes ,a lot fouls will be called. because again every offensive tactic has choices. what ever is working it turn the heat or it s advantage. It could be sf doing the driving on your tea with high passing finding your guard in bad position... A pure nightmare for any team a passing sf

Watch your game closes you will see what im saying. I think ID 6 on guards is good enough and considered a minimum IMo, make your sure sb is at least 7 on guards. If not in those minimums you cant play any zones, to much team liability . The higher the better depending your league strength.

There was a rumour that some players tend to get fouled more often - maybe there is something to it and your guys were playing against such guys.
