It was their first conference finals appearance, and it clearly showed. The Serenity Valley Browncoats looked absolutely awed by their surroundings as they took the court against long time rival the Crazy Brewers. The Browncoats fell behind quickly, as the Brewers potent offense immediately began putting up points. At the same time, the Browncoats couldn't find their own offense and by the end of the first quarter were down by 14 points, 13 to 27. The night didn't get any better from there, and a strong third quarter from the Brewers put the nail in the coffin resulting in a fairly meaningless fourth.
"This is a very disappointing end to what has been a pretty good season," said coach J.J. Russell. "Obviously, we weren't ready for a game of this importance. We tried to control the pace, but were unable to and then had to play catch-up the rest of the game. We'll need to get back to work this off-season, but hopefully the guys will learn from this experience. Getting to the conference finals is not the goal; we seemed to forget that and didn't come out with the hunger and determination needed."
The off-season should be an interesting one for the Browncoats. The team has made few changes the past two seasons, and the question now is whether the management feels the current players can continue to improve as a unit or if it is time to begin breaking up the team and look to bring in new talent.
