The Blue Crabs started off strong, forging to a 27 – 18 lead at the end of the first quarter shooting a remarkable 48% from the field, with SF Moyer, coming off the bench shooting 100% for 9 points. Vakias’s two big men, Mboma and Moses were non-factors throughout the game, though PF Norton proved to be a huge factor, finishing the game with a double double, shooting 50% for 37 points and 12 rebounds.
The first half ended with the Blue Crabs shooting much worse than the first quarter, enabling the steady 36% for Vakias to bring them within 3. The third quarter played out much the same, with the final period proving to be the moment that the Blue Crabs turned on the accelerator, having seven players finish in double digits scoring.
All in all, the Blue Crabs reminded everyone why they’re in the hunt for the top spot in the Great 8 division of V.16. Vakias, with a new manager, is still getting his feet underneath him, but looks promising with the future of Norton. Perhaps next season will be a different story for Vakias as they build on his success.
