the preseason is getting pretty snappy. nice.

Who should be welcomed to the new season? It is appropriate to extend a welcome to each and every coach, whether they be returning or if they just arrived.

What new team descended from the NBBA? the U.K. Nuggets, who join us after an extended run in the NBBA. we are fortunate that dropping down forced Holocron to do a salary dump, although the Nuggets at this time still have the fourth largest salary in the league.

Speaking of salaries, who is spending the most? in order, Tar Team (over $580,000) Yard Goats and Fort Llama (around $500,000), U.K. ($464,000).

What can be said about the DIII promotees?

xConcepts stumbled in the playoffs, but had a great season. managing since S31.

Scrap Heap Low Posters one of the great names in this sport, around since S5. Has yet to reach the Promised Land.

CC Mavs franchise dates from S19. Has yet to make it to the Big Show, also.

QuarantineAge Mutant Ninj What's a Ninj? a team that began only in S49 and has rapidly ascended to #95 in the country. The rapid rise is reflected in an under-sized arena.

Hemet Hooligans. around since S34, and first time in DII! Congratulations!

What can be said about the returning teams? This is a very competitive league. Last season, nobody had an asterisk next to their record and playing even tanking teams required substantial effort for victories.

And what of the Lethargy? Late last season, i looked the Lethargy's finances over and came up with a model that hinged on pouring resources into the draft. So how to account for a draft that produced three miserable picks, including a 19 yr old superstar potential making under $3000 -- and that was the best pick. It may be notable that none of the three have undergone the DNA treatments given to good ballplayers. This must have been a very poor draft year.

Thank You for the Welcome Coach John Marcum,

I appreciate you pointing out my short-comings of not making the Big Show. I was headed that way about 5 seasons ago when BuzzerBeater and I had a salary disagreement and I was force to sell my (about to make the Big Show Team). I enjoy building my teams through the draft, molding and coaching them.

So, hopefully we will stay here until we can make it to the Big Show. Thanks again for the Welcome and Good Luck to all.

not "shortcomings" but proof you are here to win. that's really the question i was looking to answer.

i try to sort teams into teams heading up or heading down. in this league, even those heading down are coming at you with very good players (although they may lack depth).

i''m not sure about two teams -- UK Nuggets have kept a couple of players that are really good foundational players but mixed with lesser players. if i had to guess, i'm thinking UK is not planning on heading to DIII after this season.

Then there is Milwaukee, a uniquely run franchise, marching to idiosyncratic marching orders. For our purposes, a team almost impossible to prepare for, but not likely to be champion.

fwiw, i think you are in a good conference to make a splash. Good luck!

That Hooligans - Goats match is producing some sparks.

About halfway through the second period, Hemet's all-star caliber C Mizonov left the game after taking a "hard shot".

With a bit more than a minute left in the period, SG Christiansen, who at that moment had 17 points in 10 minutes, went down taking a mid-range JS.

i imagine teams had to be separated after that one.

What a Willis Reed moment! Mizonov has returned -- even though his name is blood-red, he has returned to the game! What a player! What inspiration!

Are you seeing this, Ben Simmons?

seeing that the Chicago Nightmare were busy on the TL, i thought i might take a look at what samboner might be doing:

a playoff team in S56, the Nightmare ditched several promising players early this month, including the team's "key player" from last season and another on the Bahama NT, both players young, mid-20s. SamB then replaced that crowd with, let us say, players out of the bargain bin. Roster moves apparently not done, as all the young 'uns are being given one-way bus tickets out of town.

then i look over his roster, and i see Cates and Rossi, two trainees from the USA with practically unlimited potential, combined salaries of over $300,000, maybe $40,000 more than the two made last season, so they were adding some very expensive big-man skills. i see they both got trained for PG this week, so SamB has big plans for these guys -- in Rossi's case, he's got to be close to beginning a 5 - 10 year run on the NT.

so now i think i see glimpses of the Nightmare's present and future, then glimpse at the standings. i don't remember what the salary levels were in DIII, but even in DII, that $300,000 salary carried by the two future stars is quite a burden which may be impossible to carry if the Nightmare are demoted. That 0-2 is not fatal, of course, but it does not bode well. The narrowest survival strategy seems to me is somehow to get to 7th place and have a kick-ass team in place for the relegation match.

i've never had the problem of training a potential NT player (or two) but the rewards i gather are immense -- huge merchandise boost and of course having a world-class foundation to your team -- however, i think training players out-of-position at this level is . . . challenging.

Interesting hand -- eager to see how it's played.
