In my earlier BB years I managed to draft a HoF player from a bot league and build a world beating team around him. His name was Luka Cicvaric, and I'd say he had a great career; 3 ABBL titles, 1 Battlers Tournament, and even an Asian Championship win back when Australia were actually good.

Season 37 was the high point. I was able to bring in a then-monster PF and some key backups for the B3 campaign, and went 7-1 in the group stage. This was my starting 5 that season;

With the #9 seed, I made it all the way to the quarter-final before running into the #1; BC Vitosha Sofia. I immediately regretted not doing a GDP inside to make it interesting as my best B3 run ever came to an anti-climatic end; (94360198). Vitosha meanwhile went on to win the tournament that season.

But the fact that this roster even made it that far is a perfect example of how power creep has changed our perception of what an elite player is. With youth trainers, nutritionists, gyms and training courts at our disposal now, players and teams have become a lot more stacked than before. Indeed, my entire starting 5 these days has more TSP than Cicvaric ever did, yet I'd be happy to succeed with it in BBM now, much less B3.

Hope you enjoyed this look back at what an elite(ish) team looked like 19 seasons ago.

It shows how the game has changed. Even looking at the team you lost to (who went on to win), they didn't have crazy salary players but yet won B3. I doubt we see teams like this competing in B3 without the short rosters issues is resolved. If BB can come up with a way to need at least 8 useable players in a game then we may see more teams with players like Palmeri (low salary high TSP) being used at the top level.
