Let the games begin yet again...

Simply having a lot of money in-game seems to have gone out of fashion this off-season. The new trend revolves around spending ridiculous transfer fees in an act of one-upmanship. Because everyone knows that the more expensive the transfer fee, the better the player is overall and as such, he or she who spends the most, wins the league.

This is of course, false.

To be fair, transfer fees these days aren't so much dictated by raw skills as they are by salary efficiency. But one does have to wonder if it's truly efficient spending 2 million dollars to save 1 million. Or if it's even remotely efficient to put so much effort into improving your regular season record when it's the play-offs that count. Learned opinion remains divided.

Weekly salary wise it looks to be a wide-open league this season, with the top eight teams separated by a mere 115k in weekly salaries, and no one team blatantly tanking at the moment, though the Wild Turkeys appear to be heading that way with their top four players on the market right now. One has to expect a closely contested season, with GDP potentially playing an important role if a clear frontrunner does not emerge early on...

tl;dr version: good luck, and big balls.

Thanks for starting the new thread, u were reading my mind.

As always there are a couple of sleeping giants in the league. Fashion vics has been slowly sitting there pilling the funds without too much effort needing to avoid relegation.
Bell Park Supercats will have probably the best C in the league, whilst NOrthcote seem to still be able to buy extremely good players.

tannum are always thereabouts, whilst we have North Carlton who tanked last season.

Obviously the noobs are always going to want to stay up, but after watching countless promotees go bot of give up after promoting, im almost tempted to give them a few wins to give them some confidence! haha

Im doing a quick DMI count of all the teams except for teams in transition (ie: purchasing/selling). Post results soon.

ok
So i did a bit of DMI investigation because everyone has their players at 'Respectable' game shape, so its a good time to do some comparisons.

I excluded Wild Turkeys who are selling half their guys.

And for some reason, only ended up getting the top 9 players off eeveryones teams. I only realised 2 teams in but couldn't be arsed going back... So top 9 it is!

Northcote have the player with the highest AND second highest DMI across the entire league. he also has the highest total DMI for the top 5, and total of all 9 players.
Tannum has the best bench, like... by far.

HOWEVER - Northcote has the largest Standard Deviation for his starting 5 (ie: The biggest difference between his best and worst), whilst tannum and YSD have the small SD for their top 5.
AND tannum also has the best '5th player' in th league So thats saying something. very even top 5.

anyawys.... random DMI stats for all! hoorah!

Greeno probably came to the conclusion that he wasn't really a good return on investment... and if so I don't blame him for wanting him gone ASAP, a 210k scorer who shoots 6-22 and does nothing noteworthy is a waste of money.

Apparently Princeton doesn't suffer from being countered by a 3-2 zone in the same way that Motion or Run and Gun do...

OMG that was a terrible game! Look at the points per 100 shots and fg% of botb teams.....what on earth was going on there! Like watching 12 year olds play BBall.

I guess it comes down to both of our defences being strong compared to our respective offences. That, and neither team really went the extra mile to win (TIE vs TIE) because it's early in the season and we both had the same idea; gain more enthusiasm for the other not-so-easy games coming up on our schedule. I was tempted to Normal though...

yer you have a bot in the cup and ive got a div III team, so i was never going to normal.

look at those rebounds though! what a big rebounding game from both teams.

even the Points per 100 aren't that low. So its a bit of a surprise.

It was the next two games in my league schedule that convinced me to TIE the game. North Carlton Cavaliers away from home will not be easy, and Fashion Victims traditionally haven't been easy-beats either. Also my effort strategy during the regular season recently has been to TIE anything and everything.

You probably should've beaten me actually; TIE a traditionally sub-optimal tactic to begin with, then you said you played 3-2 zone and Cicvaric got hurt. I have no idea how I managed to escape with the W but I did.

I doubt that it will be the same story in the return fixture later this season when you have HCA. The championship may well come down to which of us can end up getting the #1 seed in the Big 8 for the HCA advantage, though it would be wrong for me to disregard the top three in the Great 8 right now, and a late buy-up or a dark horse team could also spoil the party...

im not so worried about the result, it was close all game until the last 4 minutes, i think my guys scored 4 points in the last 5 minutes which kinda sucked.

and yer with Civaric injured i was like woot my SG is gonna have a field day. RnG, no one defending him.

But he didnt, 8-21 is hardly setting the world on fire.
my bench got smashed (as in very minus +/-) which is just wrong, because I had Groppo and Phil on the bench, who will actually start some games for me, and shoulda killed your $10k scrubs. Team ratings were about right,

my team Points per 100 shots was 410 vs your 380 which is actually fairly close, which explains the closeness of the game.
But my teams efficiency for the game was 71, vs your 105. My teams efficiency was HALF that than against Noidya playing Normal.... Which is pretty bad for a team to have that much difference....and you would think nearly $200k of front court could be more efficient than $100k.
So yes i am a little puzzled.
But in the end ill just blame HCA :)
