Hey all,
I know we had discussed some different ideas to improve the draft a while ago. Thus, I posted a suggestion about it: (259228.1). I know it's a little long winded (hopefully not quite to Wolph's standards), but I'd love it if you all looked and lent it a little support (or flame the hell out of it if you think it's stupid). Also, further suggestions to improve it would be helpful.

The draft simply doesn't work
Takes 3-4 seasons for a #1 pick to contribute significantly
Even as a backup
Not to mention tanking

I believe in a hard cap system
Which forces teams to constantly develop young talent
That's the only way to have a more talented roster than the salary suggests

I love training
But as u can see my 18 yr sf is a liability in all my games

If we have a hard cap say at 350k for div II
I can simply keep my big 3 Ron Wald and Ak which I trained myself
And mix the team 3-5 trainees and still able to compete with a few vets

A hard cap also force everyone to be in the same boat
The draft also works if u r in div IV or lower
Where u can draft someone who contributes

I also would like to see a hard Cap for each division, it would make it more competitive in how each Manager builds his team..

I leant my support. Everyone needs to tell another about this thread.

I am opposed to a hard cap. I like the tax, it really works. I was staring at a not possible tax each week earlier this season when I was swapping guys out. If you want to spend your money you should be able to. I do however think the salary floor is either way too low or the attendance penalties should be heavier if you field a team at salary floor

I actually kind of like the soft cap idea. What they just implemented is interesting, but maybe it would be better if there was a cap number that was the same across each league. It makes sense that teams can go over the cap but need to pay a luxury tax to do so. Seriously, how much $$ do the top teams have? I didn't think there were many that have made it over $5M?

The attendance penalty is the crux of the matter, exactly. If a team is tanking—and in some cases only fielding 5 or fewer players—why in the world would many fans choose to come? This has never made ANY sense to me. There should be a severe attendance penalty for this IMO.

there is barely any penalty if u trainned 2 players to DIV II levels
i have like a 150K surplus on the capping
it only works if you bought the entire team

and no
i dont believe u should make this a money game
the top teams in this league are making 0 profit for the season
its not a sustainable model for a team to compete in the long term

or there should be a change to the FA system
make contracts binding for the entire season after 1st 4 weeks
if you have $$$ to spend
then u better saved up enough for a season
just like the real business of NBA

this will prohibit tanking to some extent
u see ppl selling off the entire team/ bring in 3 starters after ASG

Heck, if I had my way, you wouldn't be able to sell a player again for two or three full seasons after purchasing them. Although I occasionally will swap in and out fringe/depth guys faster than that (like the 33 yo I sold after going out of the Cup), mostly I think if you buy a player, you should be doing so for the long haul. May talk more later, the puck dropped for the second period.

The only issue I have with that is there is no clear cut guide to how each tactic operates. There is a lot of experimenting required. I bought Truong. Gave him a good fair look, he didn't work and I move on. I swap players out fairly frequently not for making cash but for trying to figure out tactics. That shouldn't be taken away.

Tanking itself is the crux of the problem. I don't have as much issue with player transactions...

But as for the draft:

The draft is a complete crap shoot. Even a 5/5 A+ can end up being a total crap player.

The draft requires some really delicate planning. For instance, you will probably want to add a trainee perhaps once every two to three seasons once you have a stable of 3+ trainees.

Then you have to get a high draft pick to get the player you want. Then you got to have enough draft points to find the player you want. Then you need to hope his starting skills don't completely suck like getting 1/1 stam/ft.

For me since I concentrate my training on draftees, I'm willing to roll the dice every two to three seasons. I still have a relatively young squad. (31634530) was my last draft pick. Even though I think he will end up as my team enforcer coming deep off the bench, I'd rather keep him than sell him..even if he is a total d-bag. He only has 55 skill points and its not pretty.
