or there should be a change to the FA system
make contracts binding for the entire season after 1st 4 weeks
if you have $$$ to spend
then u better saved up enough for a season
just like the real business of NBA

this will prohibit tanking to some extent
u see ppl selling off the entire team/ bring in 3 starters after ASG

Heck, if I had my way, you wouldn't be able to sell a player again for two or three full seasons after purchasing them. Although I occasionally will swap in and out fringe/depth guys faster than that (like the 33 yo I sold after going out of the Cup), mostly I think if you buy a player, you should be doing so for the long haul. May talk more later, the puck dropped for the second period.

The only issue I have with that is there is no clear cut guide to how each tactic operates. There is a lot of experimenting required. I bought Truong. Gave him a good fair look, he didn't work and I move on. I swap players out fairly frequently not for making cash but for trying to figure out tactics. That shouldn't be taken away.

Tanking itself is the crux of the problem. I don't have as much issue with player transactions...

But as for the draft:

The draft is a complete crap shoot. Even a 5/5 A+ can end up being a total crap player.

The draft requires some really delicate planning. For instance, you will probably want to add a trainee perhaps once every two to three seasons once you have a stable of 3+ trainees.

Then you have to get a high draft pick to get the player you want. Then you got to have enough draft points to find the player you want. Then you need to hope his starting skills don't completely suck like getting 1/1 stam/ft.

For me since I concentrate my training on draftees, I'm willing to roll the dice every two to three seasons. I still have a relatively young squad. (31634530) was my last draft pick. Even though I think he will end up as my team enforcer coming deep off the bench, I'd rather keep him than sell him..even if he is a total d-bag. He only has 55 skill points and its not pretty.

i remember these draft picks:
Kent Benson
Olden Polynice
Pervis Ellison
Shawn Bradley
Eddie Curry
Sam Bowie
Kwame Brown
Greg Oden

you get the picture. a very frustrating, and therefore realistic, aspect of this game is the inclusion of the vagaries of chance. you see an 18 year old, and want certainty about his future?

of course, this is why i have never spent anything on the draft -- i always figured i would spend about the same amount on purchasing players up to perennial all-star levels (i don't have any confidence i could train higher potential players to anywhere near their cap). so my argument is self-serving -- and i may be singing the same tune as you guys with my Utopia squad because i plan on drafting and developing home grown talent there eventually.

i will say, along with Pappy, i wish the attendance was a bit less mechanical. the effects of road losses is way overstated, the quality of the opponent or the importance of a given game way undervalued, and the benefits to miserable, tanking teams way too beneficial.

Perfectly said, H. It always grinds my ass to see the attendance of tanking teams. What BS!

Definitely. I do this all the time. Testing out which skills on other players would best suit my core team. I bought a guard about 2 weeks ago and it's still in the experimental phase with how he fits and if he's worth his contract. Every league for every season is always changing. The players that might have worked well last season, might struggle with the next season. It's figuring out what skills on certain guys I no longer need and what skills I need more of.

There's also the disastrous case of injuries. You can't lock rosters. A starter goes down with a 4-5 week injury? Well, either you sell/fire him and replace him, or just poor luck has screwed your entire season. That's not fair.

I agree that the salary floor is too low. The NBBA floor is basically the same as your average DII team. Although my recollection from time spent in DII makes it think it would be a slightly below average DII team. I don't think that's right.

However, the attendance penalty for teams that DON'T relegate is too harsh. Season 23 I went 9-13, was the 6th seed and won the relegation series. Next season I was 1st seed, went 17-5 and had terrible attendance. I kept thinking my attendance would pick up as I won more and more games, won the rival games, won the TV games, but that never happened. I was always below league average.

What you did the prior season has waaaay too much affect on your attendance the following season.

'cept i can't imagine any player being head and shoulders above the norm, like Le Bron or MJ or Bird.

If you want it to be as close to realistic basketball, than why are you advocating for hard caps? Look at how much money the Brooklyn Nets spent to get that roster. Or how much money the Lakers were spending the year prior.
