The Calm Before the Storm

Canada 102 Barbados 75 (44706)

It was a nice tune-up game for us before battening down the hatches for the host Brasilian team. Barbados was nice to us by guessing gdp wrong twice. WE will have to continue next week to do something to catch the Brasilians off guard as well.

Although we went inside, it was a full team effort. We are still missing first half season mvp Koszakov. If only someone could shake life into his manager to get his conditioning back up. WE need a hero !(cue the 1980s music). The big men didn't really have to over-exert themselves. Hall and Cockayne only took 19 shots combined, scoring 13 of them. It was nice to have old man Madiar back contributing after some time off in rehab!

The second quarter was our friend. The rest of the game we were way too close. Decent rebounding, passing and shooting from downtown. WE need more. We have yet to see how we can do when most of the team bigs and smalls are at full strength.. So let's make it happen .

Thanks for a good game shape week..I know it's all star week, but we need all the game shape help we can muster.. we play the host team who are great...

Top PLayers of Week:

1)Stephen Hall - 17 pts, 11 rebs, 4 assists (3 points)

2)Alex Cockayne - 14 pts and 9 rebounds (2 points)

3)Pavliuk - +25 rating (1 point)

Holy hell (pardon my language, but I was caught off guard)!!

Besides the foreigner who screwed Cockayne's game shape royally, amazing job training the game shape.. I had to do a double take... make no mistake, it's gonna be a tough and hopefully good game against a host team who gets home court and lacks many weaknesses. But thanks so much. Atleast you all are giving me and Canada Nt a fantastic chance to compete this week.

Thanks again, it was a long day and a nice surprise to see.

A very happy and appreciative NT Coach!!

My apologies.. rookie coach mistake.. I got nervous that we were playing host team and guessed gdp because it seemed as though they would go outside. The last couple times they played Canada inside they lost.. we are hanging in because of a wonderful second quarter and lead 53-51 at the half but a few things are against us...

1)The Gdp wrong guesses might catch up in the second half

2)WE are being outrebounded 7-0.. it's hurting us and why are lead isn't bigger. Not having Cockayne is hurting us in this department.

Either way, Brasil will be in first because of PD but it would be nice to snag a win, even with the wrong guesses.

odds are against us, but I am seeing that maybe our team when at good strength is a lot stronger than I predicted.. learn lots from losses or bad coach plays sometimes. Thanks for the support. Sorry to see Cletus go.

It's the first round, don't worry too much about it, it's much more important to avoid them in the semis if you plan to make it to the finals/worlds next season

Well there are many good teams .. so at this point of course there are some i'd like to avoid but there are many very good teams!! But thank you. We are now down 3 points with one quarter left, but by no means are we out yet. We were up by 5 at some points!!

a 9 point loss is not bad at all against Brasil @ home.
When i was the NT coach they used to be our arch nemesis, about the same level, same goals...!

You're doing a good job, don't forget to think long-term as well, not just game to game or even season by season.
For example, going to the second-chance tournament is a huge gamble if you don't have a team strong enough, as the 0-2 record at the start of the consolation tournament is a huge disadvantage when the goal is to be the last american team standing to gain HCA in the next season. However is the team is strong enough to win the america's championship, then yeah go for it!

thank you. tonight's games have made the possible brackets interesting for round two, with Venezuela and USA both losing. Let's see if getting 3rd instead of second helps us or hinders us!!!

But all good suggestions. Thank you for taking the time, I'm happy to take positive/constructive feedback , I appreciate that.

You are right though, some of our best players are old, so getting last chance might not be wise, we will take that into account, after we see our bracket.

Please keep in touch, I appreciate the help and observations!

Really ? I beat them twice and both games were relatively clear - if I remember right.

@Music_Chick: that was the easy part of it. Now the real games will start. But don“t worry about the loss against Brasil. Wif you wolud have won, you would have been second in the group, which is now Argentina ... which are in the same group as you - so, no damage happend

well in the end they ended up being the hosts of the america's championship right? :D
What I meant is that we have similar teams with about the same talents and about the same pool of players and managers. And ultimately the same goals

True. They have the same goal(s). But every team in the second round should have the same goal .... or a new NT manager ;)
