I have 11 players in my team for more than a season and it´s working pretty well :) and also good for team economics...

40 minutes is sometimes enough, but not always. If a player at or above 40 minutes before the friendly, I might take him out if I can get some more minutes for some other players, or perhaps use him as a reserve.

According to the rules you need 48 minutes for full training. Sure, the closer you get the more training you will get and if you want to train three players in same position you will have to accept that you can't distribute 48 players to each player and you probably won't loose much of training.
