You weren't push out of the job, you were just really unlucky, don't let anyone (including you!) take that away from you
And yeah the tie rules are weird, I thought an incumbent had priority, I think I remember losing an election like that maybe ~15 seasons ago, but maybe the seniority ruled applied in that case too
