Pilipinas comfortably beat Azerbaijan at home, 118-70

With Azerbaijan's incorrect GDPs, Pilipinas took advantage sa umpisa pa lang by taking a 13-pt lead after 1 quarter. Pinanatili natin ang momentum natin by adding to our lead each quarter after that. The team was led by Sixto Nical with 22pts, 5rebs, 4asts & 1stl. Benson Villarivera also helped with 21pts, 3rebs & 1stl. Jiffrey Sumalapao struggled to find his shot all night but still contributed 15pts, 2rebs & 8asts. Bill Leon del Prado led the bench mob with 19pts, 4rebs & 2asts.

Next week, we will be playing away in Pakistan para sa 2nd game natin sa Consolation tournament.

Walo sa ating mga manlalaro ang naka-double digits points kabilang na ang lahat ng ating starters. Pinangunahan ng Jiffrey Sumalapao ang pagtatala ng mga puntos na may 22 (2rebs, 3asts) habang nagdagdag naman si Benson Villarivera ng 16pts, 6rebs at 2asts. Alan Adrian Marquese made his presence felt with 14pts, 6rebs, 5asts, 2stls at 1blk. Fortunato Arcega had himself a double-double 12pts, 14rebs, 4asts, 3blks at 1stl. Off the bench naman ay si Pinong Demape ang nanguna with 11pts.

Pilipinas fend off England's 4th quarter comeback, 120-108

Fans were at the edge of their seats as England were chipping away at our 24-pt led coming into the 4th quarter. Nagtiwala naman si coach sa ating 2nd unit na mapanatiling nakadistansya sa kalaban. Key takeaway for this game ay lowest team assist natin so far this season.

Salamat sa hot shooting natin during 2nd quarter at nakalamang tayo before the break. Sixto Nical was on fire leading our 2nd quarter barrage off the bench. He ended his game with 19pts & 2asts. Pinangunahan naman nina Benson Villarivera (24pts, 5rebs & 2asts). Jiffrey Sumalapao (20pts & 3rebs) at Pinong Demape (17pts & 3rebs) ang ating mga starters. Katuwang ni Nical from the bench, ay sina Florentino Olmida (12pts & 3rebs) at Melecio Sidad (11pts, 2rebs & 3asts).

Next week, away game naman tayo sa Mexico, another tough opponent. Ang goal natin ay mabigyan sila ng isa pang talo para makaakyat pa tayo sa standings at mapanatili ang malinis na record. Looking forward sa magandang GS sa ating mga NT players.

Mexico took care of business at home, trashed Pilipinas, 111-86

Mexico made easy work on Pilipinas kahit mas may effort tayo sa home court nila. We struggled to score and move the ball around kaya naman hindi rin tayo nakahabol. They held us under 100pts, our lowest scoring output so far this season.

Ericson Regidor led the way with 34pts, albeit on 34 shots, with Jiffrey Sumalapao chipping in 17pts, 5rebs & 6asts.

Sa susunod na linggo, at home na ulit tayo kalaban naman ang South Africa. They are currently 2-2 at looking to improve on that. Hopefully we can get back on winning track with our fan's support.

Pilipinas escapes Scotland with the win, 93-80

Both teams started out slow and struggled to shoot the ball in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter proved the same with us scoring a bit more. Scotland managed to have 8 blks in the 1st half at nakatulong yun sa struggle natin. On the flip side, may 3 fouls each ang tatlong bigs nila (Lennie, Skene & MacPhee) at the half pero hindi natin nagawang ma-foul out sila bago matapos ang laro. The 2nd half was the same back and forth at nahirapan tayong kumalag mula sa kanila, we managed to gradually pull away with less than 5 minutes to go plus nag-intentional foul na sila with a minute left.

The starters were led by Benson Villarivera (24pts, 8rebs) and Jiffrey Sumalapao (23pts, 2rebs, 6asts) with Delfin Orais pitching in 14pts & 5rebs. Melecio Sidad struggled again off the bench with the same 1-8 shooting as last game against South Africa. The bench was lifted by Augustus Moleno with 10pts, 6rebs & 2asts.

Sa susunod na linggo, uwi naman tayo to host Thailand. Hopefully maganda ang GS natin considering all star week this week at dalawang game lang ang karamihan sa atin.

Pilipinas beats Thailand at home, 137-74

A hot shooting first half lifted the team into a 34-pt lead at the break. Jiffrey Sumalapao led the team with a blistering 29pts on 8 of 11 shooting and 9-9 from the line. He finished the game with 32pts (5 of 7 threes), 5rebs & 4asts. Benson Villarivera (17pts, 5rebs & 2asts) and Sixto Nical (14pts & 2rebs) also contributed as starters with our two bigmen, Alan Adrian Marquese (8pts, 7rebs & 2stls) and Fortunato Arcega (2pts, 6rebs, 6asts & 3blks) also chipping in on their own.

Off the bench, the team was led by Bill Leon del Prado with 29pts on 11 of 14 shooting (4-5 from threes) in just 20 minutes of play.

Next week, last game na ng group phase at yun ay away against Peru. Tatlong puntos lang ang pagkatalo nila against Singapore kaya naman maghahanap yan sila ng panalo sa susunod na linggo. Sana ay mas maganda na ang condition ng ating mga manlalaro sa susunod na linggo to close and finish the group phase in a winning note.
