The new rule is better but not harsh enough. I would have to think of a better suggestion. A couple of seasons ago when I was tanking and i lost control of the schedule (this very league) I forfeited once or twice. I wanted #1 pick, which I got, but dropping me down to #2 nearly means nothing. Now think about dropping from 9-10, etc. If there were guaranteed good players coming, sure it would be a good penalty. Think ...Tim Duncan will be sitting there, etc ...but since the draft is a near crap shoot ....maybe something else can be done. Lose your first round pick perhaps? I am hoping this coincides with better drafting down the road (either easier to see top down players, or each league has an MVP+, etc). Just brainstorming as I type here ;)
Most of us if you notice don't spend money on drafting (and you shouldn't), so the penalty is really nothing compared to people spending money on the draft. The real thing here is .... don't forfeit and you won't have a problem, but would I give up forfeiting if it meant a league placement vs. losing a draft spot? No way. I have never done that, but just thinking about how some people forfeited to land #5 in the league, etc.
For the cup... I have a bot. Last year I lost in the first game of the CUP. I sure wish it was to NBBA team or something cool, but ...I believe it was against a D5 team ...for real.
