D.II.1 – Season 68: Day 22 Recap (Saturday, June 21, 2025)
by Buzzer-Manager

Regular Season Finale: Flying Ostriches Outlast Village Idiots, Wasted Potential Stuns Kings, Blue Ocean Makes a Statement
The curtain closed on Season 68’s regular season with chaos, upsets, and a few late-stage power moves that may reshape the playoff picture. Flying Ostriches and Village Idiots delivered a barnburner, Kings Knights stumbled on the road, and Blue Ocean punctuated their dark-horse claim by stunning the league-leading Smallfries.

The table is set. The madness begins now.

Flying Ostriches Soar in Instant Classic
A 140–136 thriller between the Ostriches and Idiots gave fans one last electric showdown before the postseason. High tempo, big shots, and no defense in sight. With momentum firmly in their favor, the Ostriches are looking like a team no one wants to face in a best-of series.

Wasted Potential Hands Kings a Rare Defeat
The Kings Knights were a basket away from closing the season strong, but Wasted Potential had other plans—grinding out an 83–81 home win in a physical, playoff-style preview. D. Choate swatted nine shots in a monster performance, and WP proved they’re more than just a middle seed—they’re a real threat.

Smallfries Fall to Hungry Blue Ocean
Smallfries entered the night as the league’s highest-scoring juggernaut, but Blue Ocean cooled them off with a 122–109 upset. Calhoun’s all-around brilliance and Silva’s dominance on the boards sent a warning shot to higher seeds: Blue Ocean is peaking at the right time.

Storm Outgun Forest, Mildcats Hold Off Hooligans
Harbor City Storm dropped 135 in a shootout against Big Forest, while Corntucky Mildcats did just enough to push past Hemet Hooligans 105–99. Both winning teams head into the postseason riding late-season confidence.

TAR HEELS Tune Up, Mambas Maul southpaw
TAR HEELS #1 wrapped up the season with a business-like win over Wavy Gates, who limp into the postseason with three straight losses. Meanwhile, The White Mambas dished a staggering 45 assists in a blowout of the southpaw army, who exit the season with more bruises than highlights.

Irregulars Survive Slopfest with SomeTeam
It wasn’t pretty, but it was just enough—Baker Street Irregulars eked out a 71–69 win over SomeTeam. With offensive struggles still plaguing them, the Irregulars may need to rely on grit and experience to go deep.

Key Takeaways:
• The Flying Ostriches are scary hot at just the right time.
• Wasted Potential might be the most dangerous team without a top seed.
• Kings Knights finally looked mortal—and vulnerable.
• Blue Ocean is officially the playoff dark horse.
• Smallfries need a reset button before the quarterfinals.
• Mambas’ chemistry is peaking—even if the competition wasn’t.
• Irregulars escaped, but they’ll need to tighten up.
• The playoffs will not be kind to the complacent.

Final Word:
If Day 22 taught us anything, it’s this: momentum matters. The standings may be locked, but energy and identity are still evolving. Some are surging into the postseason. Others are already on shaky legs. The real battles begin now.

Let the playoffs begin.

Didn’t get enough time to post the playoff predictions, so might still post it little late, but good luck to everybody! We got some real good playoff and relegation games today. Get that popcorn ready!

D.II.1 Season 68 Playoff Predictions

Big 8 Bracket Predictions

Quarterfinals:
1 TAR HEELS #1 vs 4 SomeTeam
Prediction: TAR HEELS #1
• Top seed, top form. SomeTeam doesn’t have the depth or weapons to challenge the HEELS in a win-or-go-home.

2 Wavy Gates vs 3 Baker Street Irregulars
Prediction: Wavy Gates
• Gritty Irregulars have momentum and history on their side, but Wavy Gates’ high-octane offense and size edge give them the slight nod.

Semifinal:
TAR HEELS #1 vs Wavy Gates
Prediction: TAR HEELS #1
• Expect a tight one, but the HEELS’ elite guard play and defensive structure win out over Wavy’s volatility.

Great 8 Bracket Predictions

Quarterfinals:
1 Flying Ostriches vs 4 Wasted Potential
Prediction: Upset – Wasted Potential
• Flying Ostriches are without key forward D. Inceris. That opens the door for WP’s defense-led upset, especially with Choate anchoring the paint and their guards pressuring the Ostrich offense.

2 Kings Knights vs 3 Smallfries
Prediction: Kings Knights
• Smallfries swept the season series, but this is playoff basketball. Knights have home court and revenge on their minds. Expect a more physical tone and disciplined tempo control to tilt the scales.

Semifinal:
Wasted Potential vs Kings Knights
Prediction: Kings Knights
• WP will keep it close, but Knights’ experience, shot creation, and rebounding edge make the difference. Olsen and Myles carry the load late.

League Finals: TAR HEELS #1 vs Kings Knights

Prediction: TAR HEELS #1 win 2–1
• Kings Knights push the HEELS to the brink, but TAR HEELS #1 survive a physical series thanks to Mikos’ leadership and their championship-level defense. Game 3 goes down to the wire.

Let the chaos begin.

Good Game. Your team over powered mine from the start. Your guys were lights out shooting 63% through the first 3 quarters and my best two guys weren’t doing anything. Thanks for the internal rivalry this season, and good luck the rest of the playoffs!

Good game! You had me worried going in, you built quite a squad here for the last third of the season. I feel like you had 3 different teams this season, which made it hard to plan for. Yeah we had a fun rivalry. Hopefully I don’t have to battle you out again next season

The Ostriches have back-to-back nailbiter overtime wins, including in this quarterfinal. Is it a sign of weakness, or will they assert themselves as the top seed for the rest of the playoffs?
