Stamina is very valuable. The higher it is, the longer your players can play at their best and the more minutes that your guys play, the more stamina they will need. This is a balance if you are training players, but generally I think for minimums, this is my philosophy:
Starters (guys who are playing 30+ minutes a game):
Absolute minimum stamina: 4-5 STM
Suggested stamina: 6-7 STM
Ideal stamina: 8-9 STM
Backups (guys who are playing 12-18 minutes a game):
Absolute minimum stamina: 3-4 STM
Suggested stamina: 5-6 STM
Ideal stamina: 7+ STM
Players with 1-3 STM just tire out so quickly and are so much less effective. In my experience a player who is 80% as good as another player but has 8-9 STM will perform just as well or better as the superior player who only has 3-4 STM.
Currently my STM setup for my 8-man playoff/relegation rotation is (* is one player backing up two spots):
PG: 7 / 5*
SG: 6 / 5*
SF: 5 / 7
PF: 6 / 7*
C: 8 / 7*
