Dahlia Mavericks returns to PPL!

Quezon City, Philippines - It's been four months since we've last heard about the Mavs and after a long hiatus, are they back?

Asked what happened as they were unavailable most of the time, "busy with other business-stuff, that's all" owner Yo Chi said. He then pointed at his GM who was more jovial conducting an interview.

"We were so focused to return to the Philippine Premier League that's why we weren't able to release press releases along the way," GM Nicolo Maro said. "but we understand that we owe it to the fans to know what is happening in/out of our organization."

The Mavs ended Div. 2.1 season 20 at 13-9, good for 4th seed in Great 8 conference. They upset Div. 2.1 regular season leader O-Beshimi (104-91) in the conference semifinals before upsetting 2nd seed Heart Breakers (110-98) in the conference finals.

Asked how they were able to survive such insurmountable odds and GM Nicolo Maro casually answered "Our guys are hungry. Look at Teodosio Amante; in those two games leading to the Finals, he averaged 32.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.5apg, 1bpg and 0.5spg in 52% FG (28-54) and 44% 3FG (8-18) -- he was exceptional!" exclaimed GM NM.

Asked what happened in the Finals, he answered "We give credit to Raiders of the Lost Ark as they were able to survive in the Big 8 coming as the 4th seed and making it to the Finals." And his assessment in the 3-game finale, "Everyone stepped up! Amante is the unquestionable MVP as he poured 32pts, 10rebs, and 5asts in the 3rd and final meeting but everyone was great!," "We've been there so they wouldn't be surprised but they give it there all especially Paulino Dasal who torched us with 49 points in the finale!"

Asked what their fans and others can learn from the Mavs, GM Nicolo Maro didn't blink and said "Experience is the best teacher; team chemistry at it's finest."

We all understand what he means as the GM has been preaching it all along -- that most of the time, you don't get to the top instantly, it takes baby steps to reach your goal; and at their core, they value their players the most.

The Mavs lost their first game at home versus Manila Bombers 90-74 in their Philippine Premier League debut. "We were there in the first three quarters but we ran out of gas en route to a 27-8 4th quarter. Sepu (16pts & 15rebs) and Amante (15pts & 10rebs) each notched a double-double but it wasn't enough to upend the Bombers who made it in the PPL Finale last season.

The Mavs announced at the start of the last season that they will retire Ules and Ocana's jersey at some point in the season. They weren't able to do it then but will do so this season. But is it true that they will not retire Ocana's jersey anymore (yet?) as they had a fallout during the course of last season? One insider said that it's a done deal but will the owner have a change of heart?"
