Since this is the 1st week of the season, and all players are exactly at the same game shape, I wanted to check the minutes vs GS alteration, so I took a printscreen of my players minutes and got to some conclusions.
Take a look:
Wu Li Tze: 34min, Strong
Lucas Dure: 54min, Respectable
????? No sense
Anibal da Silva: 67min, Respectable
Sérgio César Monteiro: 66min, Proficient
?!?!? Random again

I really can't take any conclusions :S Even with 34 mins a player got his game shape improved? So you need your players to be around 35 and 70min, and the rest is totally random?
I think this should be a little improved

Its been that way for a few seasons now.

I've noticed more consistency as the season goes on with players that receive a consistent number of minutes per game but nothing definite or conclusive.

It's always been random to an extent, it's part of the design of the game and frankly I like it that way. I'd hate it if the game could be reduced to a simple math equation. That's realistic - some days, some players/teams just perform better than others.

About 55-70 minutes is the sweet spot though, to give yourself the best chance of going up. But of course, it's not guaranteed.

There is always a small random modifier chucked to make it interesting. Seriously wouldn't it be unrealistic if coaches could near perfectly manage their players playing conditions, to many random influences. To help offset this, I found a trainer with fitness speciality really helps this problem if your having trouble managing your GS, hell it's even worth it regardless to help negate those random kicks in the gut you get to your star players GS but it's not full proof. Good luck.

I have to admit, i was surprised at the gameshape that some of my guys got this first week. I pretty much played some of the guys similar minutes to what they always do, yet different GS results than what im used to!

I can't believe you had a guy jump from Respectable to Proficient.

Out of curiosity, what is the Stamina like on those players?

I remember getting a player 55 minutes, training GS, & having him stay at respectable. (In week 1)

I think that is what makes all it different. I have notice, that guys with strong stamina can play longer min and with lower stamina less minutes.

While there is a random factor to game shape I'm also certain that the optimal minute count isn't based on just one week but is effected by at least 3-4 weeks and it isn't the exact same for every player. I personally believe that players with higher stamina can play more weekly minutes and those with low stamina need to play fewer.

But this much is certain, keep managing your minutes properly every week and you will ultimately be rewarded with a roster full of high game shape players.

Look at my gs - its been that way for 10 seasons, the worst I had is mediocre on any player - because he got injured for 2 weeks - I rarely get average. The funny thing about GS is that it can increase suddenly even if it is low. 48-75 min per week is still ideal, sometimes exceptions happen. If you have Proficient GS on any player you can go beyond the 75 min but over a 100 minutes is asking for trouble.

Stamina is in direct relation with the game shape. Players with higher stamina is more flexible in relation to the minutes that he played that week.
Optimum is 60 min per week. But players with 10 stamina can play from 30 to 85 min per week and he will have 8 or 9 GS.
