Yeah, 2 weeks is manageble...just frustrating as he had a great chance to get a few U21 Scrimmages this season as 20 yr old. Such is life! It hasn't really altered my training program, just delayed it somewhat...

...as someone who sees the galss half full I had purchased a third trainee within minutes of Dogan's injury. He's a 20 yr old Superstar who's 2 years behind in training but I didn't buy him to keep him long term. I paid $100k for him and with the training he'll get for the next 2-3 weeks I'll be able to sell him and make a profit.

...as for your chances this season, SchaBoom, I say go for it...it's your season if you want it!

Alright...with a game under our belts and the new season upon us I felt the need to officially greet those as well as make my usual predictions and observations...lol

So, firstly, a warm welcome on behalf of those of us in Div III.3 to 5 new teams: the Knox stars, Taggies, Flames, The Argonauts and the Hansbrough Hurricanes. Welcome managers to the greatest Div III league in Australia...well, okay perhaps that a little too much of a claim...but welcome anyway...

...as those accustomed to my posts I will add to this official greeting by listing the 16 teams, their current player salary totals with a few side notes. It usually helps us to get an initial picture of what is happening in our league.

The total salary player totals (listed in brackets) are close estimates and do involve players currently listed for sale. These estimates were calculated as of 7:45 Perth time on 13/2/2012.

SEASON 19

Big 8

1. Hawthorn ($185k)
2. Mash Brewers ($180k)
3. Knox stars ($75k) Promoted from Div IV.16 on account of their 20-2 record (interesting) in Season 18
4. Top-Prides ($150k)
5. Glenvale Cheaters ($130k)
6. Taggies ($135k) Crowned Div IV.49 Champions in Season 18
7. The Legends678 ($175k)
8. Flames ($233k) Relegated from Div II.4 in Season 18

Great 8 (the better side :P)

1. GC Vikings ($360k)
2. Maltese Falcons ($125k)
3. CARLTON SUNS ($200k)
4. The Argonauts ($60k) Crowned Div IV.47 Champions in Season 18
5. Moorditj Magick ($110k)
6. Doons Dazzlers ($80k)
7. Hansbrough Hurricanes ($105k) Crowned Div IV.4 Champions in Season 18
8. Cheltenham Bombs ($135k)

So, some interesting observations here: Firstly, three Div IV Champions have joined us and only one Div II team has been relegated. However, the Flames were relegated from Div II.4. In case this Div II doesn't ring any bells, I'm sure you all recall last seasons' champions, the CROCKERS, who after relegating from this very same league at the end of Season 17 stepped up and spoiled the Vikings' party in the finals last season. I of course, have four good friends (and fellow Calamari men) playing in Div II.4 in Robhoe, Yodabig, Naker and Xerxes (the Western Titans, Chelsea Seagulls, Viral Infections and Persepolis Immortals respectively). So I'll get the gossip on Flames and get back to you all! Jokes... :P

Secondly, in terms of salaries, the GC Vikings, with their $200k monster C still have the largest player salary total at $360k! However, the Flames, recently relegated from Div II (see above), while having more than $100k less than the Vikings, have the 2nd most expensive list at $233k! The question is: how much money do they have and do they want to return to Div II immediately? The Vikings will be very interested in the answer to that question I'm sure.

Thirdly, it seems that there are several teams tanking this season. Hmmm. What to make of this? It could simply be a reflection of the times (Div III teams are being forced to tank just to have a chance at promoting into Div II). I must stress that it is too early to be sure of who is tanking and who is not. Only the Glenvale Cheaters and Moorditj Magick have come forward in this regard so far.

Finally, while these current figures (listed above) seem to suggest how strong or weak teams are, a word of caution: some teams are focusing on the Cup, others on training and cash, and others are just having fun! In other words, everything I have written in this post is simply crystal ball stuff and should be treated as such. anything can happen and often does.

PS. I heard the Magick had 3 million dollars in the coffers! Surely not! :P

Nice analysis there matty, as usual :P

In regard to tanking, I think Glenvale is planning to do that this season as he sold many of his players. i think that matty you are just saving up a stack of cash (well the number is an unknown, lol) to prepare for your push in a season or two. Really with you two tanking this season the new teams might find it easy, but if you guys end up in a relegation series then the opponents will find themselves in real trouble :P

To schaboom, i think it is your time to shine buddy, after two seasons of paying you should earn your ticket to DIV II this season.

So a little bit of pre-season (well only one game played) prediction, i see the finals as a show down between GC and the Flames this season.

Yeah, good call, ZinGa. Your prediction, one week in, has merit. Personally, I agree that SchaBoom really has earned his ticket to Div II...he just needs to cash it now! lol

Hi All,

Looking forward to a good season, seems there are a few decent players around.

To end all rumors, I will not be tanking, that is for sure! Looking at rebuilding a good side that can be competitive in Div. 2 - maybe not next season, but who knows??

Cheers,
kintoc

Thanks guys but deserve it and have the money are a different thing! I can't afford to hang on to my negative salary with my C, no one seems to want a powerhouse centre at this stage of the season. If I can get him sold and save some money I guarantee Kintoc I won't roll over, well either way but I think I will be useless in DII with no money! Hope you are more active than bevers, very little talk in the forums from him so please join us in our rubbish banter! :) I would say Matty has some of the best write-ups in all the leagues in Oz..

Just had a look at your team earlier today... I hope you can keep your Centre and move up... Might give me a chance next season.

It is a tricky thing, having a few good players AND being able to afford it. I went for the best PR man I could find to get as much $$$ as I could. I never spend money on the draft in the seasons I am trying to win. That $40k a week is a pretty good player, whereas the draft is pretty low chance of getting anything.

Greetings, Kintoc, great to see you poking your head in and saying hello. Welcome. Given that you've just come from Div II, I'd say that's some pretty sound advice, kintoc. I think the real shame about BB at the moment (if I had to complain about anything) is that Div III teams almost have to tank at least one full season if they have any chance of pushing through to Div II. Unless they get lucky in a draft and score a player or players who they can sell for $500k+ or more, or unless they can make awesome day-trading wins (buying cheap and selling for strong profits) tanking becomes the only viable option. It's a shame as tanking sucks! The only positive is that you get to focus more on the cup, training and arena.

@ SchaBoom, my write-ups aren't the best in Oz (thanks for the praise though) as I'v eread many great writeups in other leagues. I just like to do it to enhance the atmosphere of this great game. Cheers though.

In other news, I only just lost tonight (lol) and am already finding it hard to swallow 40+ point losses. "add tears here".
Ah well...as one manager once wrote...it's not a sprint but a marathon.

Ha, that is why I have yet to be able to bring myself to tank yet Matty, hurts to watch when you are a competitive person.

@kintoc- thanks for the advice, unfortunately I will still need to sell him and try and find another machine towards the end of the season, - 90k a week is not sustainable for the duration of a season, even though I do still have a bit of coin in the bank.

Let me know when you sell him, I might buy :)

I have few grey hairs in the change rooms at the moment, might be time to freshen up and get some decent youth.

Ha, well he is still on the market for much lower than market value as it seems no one wants to buy high salary bigs at the start of the season.
