So I finally have two players that with the right training could reach NT-level and this is certainly something that I am aiming for. However, the Swedish u21 team is really in need of some high quality youngsters so I was wondering what people are thinking these days about training upper-level trainees. Is it possible to train for U21 and then onwards to the NT or will this be detrimental to the overall skill set of the player? Are today's great players necessarily polished all-round types or can one develop a one-dimension monster that will be successful on the big scene?

My own feeling is that developing for u21 first seems detrimental to developing a great player later on. I scrambled together some quick graphs using the training coefficients from the training simulator (US offsite) and the exponential increase in weeks spent to get a pop in secondary skills are just too high to be warrant focusing on primaries first and then filling the gaps after 21-22.

Very simple and assuming no elastic and static levels but these graphs give the basics of what I am thinking. They show the number of weeks to get one pop with the best form of training (i.e. largest coefficient at each age-iteration)

Has anyone had success with training primary skills first and then filling in the gaps or is U21 training for lower level potentials only?

Just get a guard with 7 IS as a starter, you won't have to train it much longer after the U21 since it will be at 9 if you train 1vs1 forwards during the early years. If you have high ID to start too you'll have good enough secondaries as it gets towards to 10's by training OD too.

It is much easier to do this with guards and SFs than bigs.

Thanks everyone!

Think I have my conclusion that I should be happy with leaving certain blemishes and focusing on the key secondaries rather.
JR may be cheaper but still not worth it for a big
