Two Hours of Frantic Bidding Nears, Front Office Quivers with Hope

Tomorrow, eleven players with almost identical characteristics will hit the TL shortly after noon, culminating two hours later with the auction of ERG rookie Al Motley.

Motley, along with all the other players, are all 18 year old rookies with MVP potential and starting with 49 - 51 TSP. As of this writing, four players are going for an average asking price of $1.23 million; on the other hand, three players are currently listed for an average price of $133,000. The final four players, including Motley, list for $500,000 - $510,000.

As one would expect, the lower priced players have many more bookmarks (7,6,7,5) than the million dollar+ players (1,1,1,2). Also not surprising that the lower priced players already have much active bidding.

A lot of pent up demand, coaches with money in their pockets, high level product, and our financial boys are excited. Some suggest the top may exceed $1 million, with even the largest asking prices getting a bid or two; the realists think the $500,000 comes close to the top, but probably will go; the pessimists think someone will hack the squad and just steal the Gift from Great Beyond.

Not that any of us are superstitious, but there are apparently a number of players who see this event as an irrefutable omen of the season's direction. Others have taken matters into their own hands, and have flown to New Orleans to see a Papa Legba, who they hear took care of Coach Shnuffy before last season. Coach John Marcum, a realist, still expects the very gates of hell to open with each step and is never relieved when it doesn't happen. But he knows it will. This season.

Beginning Saturday.

Later that day: "The gods have spoken! The omen is unequivocal! We are doomed!" Guard players mumbled among themselves upon hearing the disastrous results of the sale. The players who had gone to the Big Easy to hope to rally the support of Papa Legba said he only laughed and said "good luck." Last edited by John Marcum at 11/2/2022 4:02:45 PM
