I think I brought this up but some players might have to be separated early from the u21 path to focus on NT training so we can achieve more complex, focused training builds. Primaries win the u21 but training primaries on a 6’10 big until he’s 22 is going to make it damn hard to get him to the build we need (read; more secondaries) if he’s taking 4 weeks to pop in OD instead of 2. Maybe popping 7 times in passing for an 18 year old is better than 4 times when they’re 25? Height permitting, Primaries will always train faster no matter the age. We need those secondaries sooner.
It’s a tough line to toe because I love the u21 and want them to win every game but sometimes the focus for u21 glory with players has already put a player behind the curve for the full NT, and we have suffered because of it.
So more open and frequent communication with the u21 manager, absolutely. The rest is a case by case, player by player basis.
