I’m curious to her how your cycles system works out. Are you paying for youth trainer? It seems expensive to pay for a quality youth trainer all the time, but also a missed opportunity in training to invest time in a 18-19 year old without one.

I fear that my lack of patience will be the downfall of the plan, as I only made it 2 cycles in my outside program before switching to inside. I was paying for a youth trainer for the first 2 years of a cycle, but given the fact that it's only for 1 player, it doesn't quite seem worth it, I'd agree with you there.

I bought Dowling as a 18 year old for ~75k and he had 31/20 skill points. I only trained him till the end of his 23 year old season, but in those six seasons I got 40 guard skill pops (only 10 between HA and DV) and 12 big skill pops (which I realize is just mediocre). I would guess if I had trained him another 3 years he would end up around 81/35.

The goal is to have a constant stream of players with manageable salaries that let me still be competitive every season. While at the same time, since I'm buy players fairly cheap, I am still making a decent profit every 3 years when I sell a player that ages out from my team. It worked great in D III, but it's starting to look like the ceiling might be a competitive D II team. It definitely does not seem like it will be sustainable in D I.

Looks like I might be focusing solely on training soon. Get right back in this league only to have my bank account empty (I was going into bankruptcy without the promotion bonus) and most of my starters 30 and 31. I played the first three games against three top teams so I might be jumping the gun. But I kinda of enjoy the rebuilds where you don't have to worry about giving minutes to trainees and losing a close league game.

Yeah, even if you can keep an 18 yo limited to cup and scrimmage games, it’s hard to be competitive if you are starting a 19 or 20 yo in one slot every game. About 5 seasons back I sold house, pulled Worthington with the #1 pick, and only came back now that I am close to finishing his training. I am closing out training my 2 starting guards. They are 24, 25, and 25 respectively. It requires shuffling but never starting a player I know isn’t competitive. I have been thinking about what to do as they completely age out of training (things are pretty slow now) and the best I can imagine is 1 young player and a rotating crew of older players that I can fix or upgrade while training a draftee.

Yeah, I'm in a similar but slightly earlier version of this same situation. Trainees are 23, 24, 24 needing single position training for another two seasons minimum. It's tough to get them all 48+ especially due to foulouts/injuries(had trouble with both already, trainee injured 3 minutes into yesterday's game, and another one has been getting into foul trouble). First 4 games of this in d2 were pretty promising though, I'm 1-3 but could easily be 2-2.

This league seems pretty damn close competitively. Gonna be real interesting to see who pulls off the chip

Congrats to RV on having their whole back court picked to the first string allstar team! Well deserved! Cant pretend that I don’t feel a little snubbed by the voters - leading the conference standings but not one allstar? Not even a second-stringer? I guess they don’t appreciate the IS and OD focused line up. Fair enough, it is a bit overdone at this point.

I think a lot of it has to do with rotating positions and minutes played. I basically start the same lineup now that i'm out of the cup and got 4 reserves which.....doesnt make sense much but its all I can think of.

Yeah, every season that I have had to do out of position training I’ve had way fewer votes. My lineups have varied a lot this season, so I’m not really surprised. I don’t think even the GMs worry to much about the allstar game. Otherwise the would have updated it off the season 3 game engine with a coaching rating for a game with no managers.
