The best advice I can give is to take it slow and build for the future.

Your arena should be top priority. It's how you afford to pay the players that you spend the next few seasons training up to be your studs. Buying old vets gets you some wins now, but doesn't help much down the road.

Mercer is your best starting trainee, too bad you got him at the end of the season. Rollins MAY be a decent second trainee, but i don't know just how low his stats are. You might get decent player or two in the draft, but since you couldn't invest in scouting, it'll be all up to luck. But there are plenty of good players available the draft for cheap (Starter, Star, Allstar potential under $5k). Get a competent trainer to start. There almost as good as advanced, but much cheaper.
I'd also invest $20k/week in scouting so you can look for a good player in next year's draft.

You have any more questions about anything, feel free to send me a PM or just post here in the thread, someone will answer ya. :-D And if you get bored, read the help forums. I learned a lot by just reading questions other people posted.

Edit: Just noticed a pretty good post here (278729.1) concerning spending your initial $300k that you might want to check out.

Thanks for the advice! The link was helpful too. It has only been one day and I already wish I could start over to fix a few small mistakes I already made.

I am the Master of Mistakes, I have been working seasons trying to get the team competitive. I was looking forward to challenging next season, but the surprise loss to Chicago in the playoffs has me concerned. Its a learning game and have fun with it, the stud teams in each division have great managers, who not only make you work hard, but are free to share knowledge. Live, learn and enjoy :)
