hahah very good timing, timing is everything! US markets up overnight giving us a positive lead. I hear a lot of news about Greece defaulting has been factored into the market already so even if they do default it won't affect us too badly. It's bad enough it is affecting us because Australia is head and shoulders above the US and Europe at the moment!!

The share price is based on the real share price, so your sell orders will only go through if there's been some activity on the share. If there's no trading at all on the share your buy/sell orders won't be processed.

Also, if you specify a particular price to buy/sell (instead of choosing 'at market') your order won't be processed until the actual price occurs on the share market - for that to happen you'll need there to be some activity on the share in real life, otherwise the share price won't actually change.

Ah and I noticed that just like real life, your order is at the back of the queue so just because there are some trades at that price doesn't necessarily mean your order got fulfilled.

Yeah, it looks like it pretty much mimics real life. Your order can only be filled if there's someone that wants to buy/sell the quantity of shares you are trying to buy/sell.

This isn't generally an issue with 'big' shares, but with smaller shares it can be.

Well its more to do with the lesser known/traded shares where volume becomes a big issue and you might not be able to sell your shares unless there are trades.

thanks, yes that would explain it! i was trying to offload my small caps that had been smashed... that would explain why they didn't sell on Market values. I didn't realise it mimicked the actual market in that way as well...
I'm better off having that money sitting in cash!!

Well yes, that's exactly the reason. And it's not an issue of 'might' not be able to sell your shares unless there are trades, it's impossible to sell your shares unless there are trades (ie: there must be someone that wants to buy your shares, for you to be able to sell them).
