i guess the only way to compare is against players of their own generation. I think MJ was a class above in his time, whereas Lebron is still on his way to building his legacy. In terms of what they've both acheived at the same point in career I think they are very similar.
The main point of determining the greatness of a player in the past has been Championship rings and as it stands MJ has 6 and Lebron has 0. So for now that is the only thing we can base who is better off.

Lebron will pass jordan. Lebron can defend all positions and is just as awesome on offence as Jordan ever was

That I'd have to disagree with, I don't think Lebron is even close to Jordan's scoring ability, if there's anyone Kobe would be considered as awesome as Jordan was. Plus the sheer clutch factor of MJ hasn't been seen by anyone since he retired.

How do you define better?
Do you mean better at offence? Better at defence? Better in league? Better in playoffs? Better under pressure? Better shooter? Better passer? Better personality? Better at motivating his team? Better at bringing fans to games?

I knew someone would blurt this out and...... uhoh!! look who it is!

If you were creating an all-time dream team, would you pick Jordan or Lebron first because, surely, these would be two of the first picks.

I've always considered His Airness to be the greatest of all time, but after observing Lebron....... and he's still so young. He's just so powerful.

yeh man, no doubt Lebron is more powerful and stronger than MJ ever was, but thats the evolving nature of the game i guess and can only base their talents and skills on the current crop of players around them.
I guess you could say that Lebron is a perfect speciment of what a Basketball player should be built like, Fast, strong, powerful and agile. He is Mr. Perfect and can play 1 to 5 hahah.

You spout lies!

Jordan brought the NBA to the world. I ask all my non basketball friends and work mates. They all know who MJ is, they have not even heard of the name Lebron in their entire life... nor do they know Kobe. Right about now even Kobe has earnt more accolades then Lebron. However in a decade time we will see Lebron stands, but I can guarantee you it won;t be above Jordan.

Being the best is not just about being able to defend all positions or about who has better offense, its about everything...
on the court and off the court...

there's also 1 thing Kobe or Lebron will never beat MJ in and it is the fact that Michael Jordan never lost an NBA Finals Series. Kobe has lost 2 and Lebron has lost 1.

Don't get me wrong because Jordan has always been my idol. In my early days of high school, I wanted to be black so I could "be like Mike".

Something occurred to me several years ago... I was watching a few Bruce Lee films and, after years and years of everyone using Bruce Lee as a synonym with "amazing fighter" or something like that, I realised that it was all just media hype. The movies are terrible. I've done lots of different forms of martial arts and, sure, he may be good but I've seen so much better from even people who have trained me.

There is no doubt that he brought NBA to the world, but this isn't necessarily just him. It's a media campaign, to make money. I'm not saying that he's wasn't amazing, but I know what media hype and "time passed" can do. It can create legends out of great people.

I think it is all generational, if it wasn't for these pioneers would Basketball be what it is today if it wasn't for Michael Jordan single handedly changing the way the game was played? Guys like Lebron and Kobe grew up watching and idolising MJ as well, so in a way you can say MJ helped shape the game to what it is today. Who would know if Lebron would be as dominate and as good if he never had an MJ to idolise on his walls and try to be like Mike as well, who knows if he would've even picked up a basketball.
I think MJ had changed the game so much that people see the greatness in what he has done.

LOL Bruce Lee was a legend too.. it was he who created and brought his style of fighting to the world...
He also learnt from renowned masters himself and it takes a lot of discipline to learn what he does.

These days MMA is great too, you put the likes of GSP in the cage with Bruce Lee and GSP will prolly come out on top cos fighting has been revolutionized. Its like with anything... as time passes.. technology, understanding and technique all get improved..

But what makes Bruce Lee and MJ so great is that they brought their respective abilities to the world.. of course with the help of some hungry money making corporations.. still that should not discredit the hard yards they put in beforehand.
