those who won this league had 550K-600K salaries
no way i can maintain that during the season
maybe for 2 weeks at the end
to get a shot at the 1 Mil bonus to make it worth it

sounds like a great plan. speaking of the playoffs i just found out last season that being the 5th seed on purpose doesn't help you to save money anymore. Instead of earning revenues from playoffs or relegations, 5th or 8th seeds are the worst places.

It depends. You only pay half salaries if you're the 5th place team, and a team that loses in the first round of the playoffs only gets half a game's worth of attendance revenue. I pretty much aim for the playoffs anyway, but there's still a good case that you're better off being fifth than losing your opening playoff game.

a very long time ago, i had made it to DIII but did not really belong there (i thought respectable a high skill level). i was struggling and looking at losing the relegation match. another team made a deal with me, letting me finish fifth so that he could gain the revenue from three games of relegation. i took the deal -- and to this day, fifth place means to me "you are in this league for one more season" which for me produces warm and fuzzy feelings of relief.

if conditions are right, i would say there is no greater feeling than coming in fifth.

Oh, yeah, when I promoted to III I was pretty happy when I locked up a top five finish, although of course missing the playoffs because one of LD2's players got a buzzerbeater dunk on me in garbage time to cause me to lose out on the point differential tiebreaker by two points was not quite the happiest of times. That's one of the reasons though that I really never throw any games - not just because I don't agree with it in principle, but I've learned that every point matters.

Looking back on that now it was regrettable how that went down that way. I learned a similar lesson that night, because of that game nothing is taken for granted. For a while i thought their was a method to your madness when it came to your seeming affection for the 5 hole. But then the past set up was different and not having to pay anyone while building early was an advantage that had to be addressed.

@Greetings everyone. ......I have been doing this dance since season 3, and I'm happy to finally get to this level and be with you all. I hope to maintain the high standards of this leauge that i have heard about and witnesed.

I thought the 5th seed always get an away game as their first game of the season, which is the only game they play on the first week? so 5th seeds end up not making any money

I didn't really expect that Rob Carter will be sold as I just lost 400K on tax. :(

Yeah, and to be honest, my affection for the fifth spot was simply a desire to avoid sixth or lower. I figure that if I can always ensure a fifth or better finish, I just need to manage promotion a total of four times to get from V to I. I've been fortunate here that getting into II came at a time where my trainees were pretty much ready to anchor a team at this level and so I've been more pushing to promote than having to fight for survival.

No, there really weren't.

It's amusing that the team that hasn't logged in all season is leading the red conference right now.
