Not sure what you mean by macro style beer. Stout comes from porter, but is not the same at all anymore.
To be honest, I like any beer that is ice cold, from schlitz to Newcastle brown.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

stout is not the same of porter but is part of it. it's the same to say that pilsner is a style that makes part of lager category. As it is a so common style everybody started to call "lager" any lager that is not a pils supposing they're two different stiles. same thing for stout and porter. :)

Czech are top drinker pro capita if you consider each country (I'm talking about beer). But if Bavaria would be a country his inhabitants would be at top of that ranking. about europe, mediterranean country are at the bottom of the ranking for historical reason (we can plant field with vines, not with hops or barley) so that Italy, Greece, France, Spain and Portugal don't have an actual beer culture :D

Actually here in italy we started our craft beer movement in 1996 (similar to the one started in usa by sierra nevada and others in the early 80's) and now we have almost 500 microbreweries or brewpub.

not so many IPAs lovers. quite weird, I'm quite sure that many people (especially from USA and Denmark) don't drink any other beer styles.

My favorite beer styles are quite seasonal. We are heading into winter and for me that means especially porter (imperial stout) and ales in general. Summer is more about lager (pale lager, especially pils) and wheat beer (weissbier) for me. But I like pretty much everything. Some popular styles such as Lambic and IPA are not very common around here, and therefore I don't drink them much.

In our country we consume generously I prefer Amstel, but our beer is pretty good also, you guys probably never heard of ours anyway
