I think last season the lucky fish did the division III elevator men as well.

unfortunately it was the div II elevator men, had it been div III i might have actually made that list

things are different now though cos of two reasons...

- there are more players, they have instant access to best advice on the forums hence they know what they are doing. Also they are very enthusiastic and ultra competitive by nature.

- and the market crash. You never saw 200k or 300k salaried player in a div3 team back then.

back then a 12k or even a 20k center could cost as much as 1mil. I paid over 1mil each for each of them. 13.5k(2939096), 24k(2214661).

so back in the days it would be a lot harder for a div3 to progress to div1,
now it is a lot easier all thanks to the creators trying to close the gap between the top dogs and newly created teams.

You wont see teams like Direwolf or WA is a dump dominating the abbl for decades and decades no more... its going to get a lot tighter as soon as people start believing in themselves like what whitebeard has done. Only a matter of time before the monkeybizzes, the baxter bogans, the BHB's and newer ones start catching on.

I thought about previewing both of the above games, however decided otherwise. kicking myself now.

Anyway i dont mean to brag but i said the Demons would win by 16 and Monaghan would be big for the Demons, while Echezuría would be big for the Tigers. (42969456) 2 points off, and those boys were the best players for their sides.

In all honesty I don't think it would be possible to repeat that unless the market goes through the roof :)

I'm not saying salary is everything, balanced players will always trounce mono skilled monsters - so long as they are in the same ballpark. A 12K player would have no hope of going up against 100-200k monsters that are the cornerstone of championship contending div 3 teams in our current season

I agree with Koop..the market tanking has made it possible for div 3 teams to put together an incredible roster that would compete in div 2. Although they will not be able to hold on to that roster for more than a season..it really is a gamble.

I think that both you and Koop are correct, however I do no think this change in the market has benefitted anyone except teams promoting to the ABBL. You used to be able to compete in division III with a $150,000 roster, well those days are gone. Now everyone has at least one $50,000 player. Profits are very low and the teams that spend up big trying to take the championship and fall short and wrecked for seasons, look at Possum Pete as an example. When you get to division II instead of the $30,000 players you used to face now everyone has a $100,000 beast or two. If you are lucky you will be in a conference where there are so many tankers tha you can try to survive, if not the choice is drive yourself bankrupt or tank and bank. Look at the epidemic of tanking now. With everyone being able to afford such expensive players you are either in or out.

II.1 8 tankers.
II.2 2 tankers.
II.3 5 tankers.
II.4 5 tankers.

That is 20/64 teams in division II have/are tanking. I don't think this is good for the game at all. The teams that are helped are those that promote to the ABBL and think they have a shot, well they can pick up ABBL standard players for a song and have a fair chance of surviving.

Honestly next season in the ABBL looks like being a bloodbath. If the promotees are the current division II league leaders abigfishy, tremell, Vios and me, all four have good long term players and an excellent base for ABBL success. Things could be really shaken up next season.

Great work Bainsy. When is the next interview? I love that you are involving these division III teams in the community that they may be about to join. Some of these teams like Urmummas, Maggots, TeamAkuma, Coin Collectors and Vis Maior are already well known, others like Popenpop and Mayhem are like who?

well from what i have seen there are a few 17-0 teams who might have a huge challenge on their hands.

III.1

Starting with III.1, where Tannum Tantrums leads the division. However the Blue conference is riddled with some quality teams. Fishy Kangas, The Winnerz, Jerries. These are some high quality div III teams. Jerries has div II experience, The Winnerz have U21 star Chris Johnson, and the Kangas have made the III.1 playoffs on 5 occasions.

tannum tantrums vs. Fishy Kangas 100 - 88 (42968176)
The Winnerz vs. tannum tantrums 82 - 94 (42968183)

Although i am lead to believe both the Kangas and Winnerz were riddled with injuries for those games

The thing that the Tantrums have to their advantage is that they should be able to coast their way to the finals, whereas the Blue representative will have had to slug it out with at least one of the other teams mentioned, possibly both.

III.2

In III.2, Popenop leads the division with 17-0. Looking at their side, they arent one of the stongest div III leaders, however must have done some things right to get to this point. I would think that they would have some cash floating around as they haven't made a meaningful purchase for close to 11 months.

Their main contenders would have to be Magic vs Bird (PD of 647 - 3rd highest in div 3 i think), Skijm and Lords of Hellfire.

Looking at these teams i Magic could be very scary with last seasons U21 star Jankowski leading the team. however GS will be vitally important for this side, as they have been vulnerable to poor GS in the past.

Skijm has div 2 experience and could have some money saved up to make a challenge.

IMO the biggest worry for Popenpop should be from LOH in the other conference. Like the Tantrums they should have an easy route to the finals, banking some much needed enthusiasm while the Blue side battles it out.

III.3

You should know this one, but for those who don't. The GC Vikings are dominating III.3 with a very strong lineup. The only real contender i can see is the Flames (knocked me out of the cup before :S). They have 6 seasons of Div II experience spread between II.1 and II.4. As a team they are solid all over the board and have been very vigilent with their GS. If they are able to get Petreski from awful GS up to strong then they could well prove difficult for the Vikings.

The Vikings however have some real good players, mainly this guy (9889011). But spending so long in div II the Flames may have some cash to splurge and spoil the party.

Well Popenpop declined to reply. well didnt decline as such, just didnt reply. we might get something from him when he comes online later in the season.

However we should get some insight from Bigsmart, manager of the Sydney Sea Eagles 17-0 in III.5.

@ SchaBoom - i will get around to some more division evaluations over the next few days, so sit tight and fork out that 211k for Vitanyi

Yep, 100% agree with you - this is definitely not good for the state of the game. You put it very succintly when you say you are "either in or you're out". It really would be a lot more fun if everyone could stay competitive rather than a couple teams gunning for the championship, while the rest of the teams sit around in mediocrity to save money.

I am in exactly the same boat that Possum was in last season - I've put everything I've got into trying to win it this season and relying on the promotion money to get me out of financial trouble - if I don't win my team will be suffering the consequences for seasons to come.

Regardless of whether you're training or buying veterans, the cost of winning a championship now is so much more then the money you actually make. I know if I tried to play an economically sound game this season, I wouldn't have a chance in hell of winning.

It also doesn't help that cashed up div 2 teams that have been tanking all season drop down with a piggy bank full of BB dollars, ready to buy up some veterans and pwn their way back to div 2, smashing any dreams we div 3ers have of promoting to the glorious competition they call div 2! hahaha
