DMI can be deceiving, I agree, but not when it's 29 times greater than the other guy's and you're playing close to your position of strength.

This is where I disagree. DMI is typically weighted toward offense. Fantastic defenders can be hidden. The game ratings of the game tell the whole story. Nobody including the ousted should be surprised.

And really, not just less enthusiasm, but close to half. Doug Fir appears to have gone TIE all season (unless someone did a CT against him) while the Warriors have been going Normal all season (EVO is on default, so that's a Nor/Nor game, and comments here indicate so was the Warriors/Rabbits game). Add in his HCA, and he's got a lot going for him before the game even starts.

The fact that Fir went 37-89 (and 17-36 from 3pt land) also indicates just how outmatched Leary and Anderson were in the backcourt. So sure, the Warriors had a huge advantage at center, but Fir had a pretty large one at the guards. And then Fir played an offense which focused on that, while Warriors played one which doesn't actually focus on the center.

Obviously it's disappointing for a DII team to be knocked out of the cup this early, but when a DII team concentrates so much on the league games, I think it isn't a bad thing that they can be beaten by a lower division team who puts more focus and effort into the cup games.

And the Warriors are still sitting in the driver's seat for the Great 8, having already gotten victories over the two 3-1 teams.

I think the important thing here is that we all agree the only prudent thing to do in the Blue Conference is to run at the salary floor and make mad money this season since we've got one team actively looking to go down, one team that's now already a bot and another team that is starting to look like they'll turn bot. The odds are good that the only team that is active and not wanting to demote that still will is whoever finishes 8th in the Red Conference.

As far as the actual game, yeah, patient looks for the best "mismatch" but focuses on jumpers and perimeter shots, with less emphasis on driving and very little emphasis on actual inside shots (unless, of course, you have an outside shooter at C against a big man in a man to man offense, at which point all he wants to do is shoot inside shots, not that I'm bitter or anything). Combine that with the defense not being good enough compared to the opponent's offense, and the deficiency in ball handling (1:1 Assist:TO ratio), it's not that much of a surprise that it turned out like that.

Maybe hrudey can help shed some light on this but I remember reading a while back about an aspect of help defense in the BB GE (sorry I can't seem to find the post now). Assuming my memory is correct, having one dominant player in the lineup only helps the GE picks out who to help. Though my data is very limited, I've seen some aspect of that before. Anyone experienced something similar?

I don't remember reading anything on those lines. I remember hearing second-hand about shotblocking possibly being the skill that governs help defense, but that's really all (and I don't remember where that post was). I think there was a thread with BB-Charles at some point where this stuff might be, but that's all way before my time here unfortunately.

Glad that game's over. Watching your best player get the "Can't Buy a Bucket" headline three times in one game is enough to cause one to reach for the bottle.

What a negative outlook. The optimistic view is that he made enough shots that he was able to have three such streaks instead of one really long one (That's what she said).

I love this glass half full mentality. I guess I can also take solace in the fact that I played a team that I think is better than mine and kept it close while I TIE'd their Normal. I was at home, sure, but I kind of figured I'd lose by 30.

My enthusiasm isn't very high + HCA & a GDP guess by you. Plus on top of all that my GS wasn't great. Had to play a few starters 100 minutes last week. (faced a real cup team)

So flipping the glass over, and splashing the contents all over hrudey's already stained t-shirt, there's no way you should've lost!!! (<-- splash guard/wink)
