wow what a great start to the season..... dfbs vsing their most hated rival, Vis Maior!
Hopefully this time Vis Maior would take it easy and reserve their strength to challenge a tougher opponent, Vios Violationers.

The Meateors have been very successful! I think he made finals the first season he arrived in the div2 league and each season only got better until finally reaching ABBL status. Holtz their coach is also quite active on the forums.

My brother (West Coast Steel) unfortunately wasn't as successful. He copped the yo-yo effect and went up last season then came straight down this season. He's been placed in div3.16 I believe.

Looks like you guys have a few active players so already looking like it should be a good season. Lets rip into it!

Anyone pick up any decent draftees? I didn't get anything worth singin and dancin about... :-(

Gotta admit, I do miss Holtz's league rundowns and recaps during the season. It gave an interesting insight into the league during those times. Good to hear he's done phenomenally well. Your brother will bounce back. I expect most teams would find it a tough transition from div 3 to div 2.

Managed to land one decent player out of the draft. Had a 5 star, A+ grade, 4 ball potential SG as my first option whom went to another team. My team needed help at SF so the new kid fills a need and should help.

Had a bit of a power outage scare at home. No computer or internet access the week leading into round 1. Work internet access is limited so I haven't been able to really sit down and have a good look at things yet.

Apparently things have been resolved so I should be able to check it all out tonight thankfully.

Btw Datz, who are you talking to in your last msg? lol

We're less than a day away from the first game of the season. With new teams entering the fray and the rest of us having returned after seeing the Hudson Hacks re-promoted last season, here's a quick pre-season rundown on the state of things in our league:

GREAT 8

D.F.B.S. - One of the forces of our league returns to vye for promotion at end of season. DFBS has some stellar players, including 22 year old Kyle Duffill, 7 footer Jorn Bilkin and PG Nestor Karpushenko. This team has stars, depth and a good GM who'll ensure another strong playoff appearance this season.

Geoffrey the giraffe - The renamed Taitai BC squad looks to have a tough season ahead of them after securing a slight foothold into the league last season. The GM seems to be pro-active and has it's highest-salary player on the TL now (likely to accrue cash and purchase further talent) in order to try remain competitive this season. Shrewd trades can turn the fortunes of a team around, so look for 'G.o.g' to make changes and perhaps push for a playoffs birth if things go right on the TL.

go aussie - The recently-promoted team in the Great 8, go aussie has a tough task ahead of them if the team is to push for a playoffs birth. Aussie has some solid players and with solid trades could suprise with competitive play.

J.M.A. - JMA returns and looks to make a playoff run once again. A solid front-court tandem of Darren Tronc and Damien Grigg will ensure JMA is competitive throughout the season and will present match-up issues for many of the teams in the league.

Lords of Hellfire - LoH looks to build on a strong end to last season after filling the teams biggest need with a solid Centre in Ota Syrovy. Behind scoring machine Laurent Sauvage, LoH has a strong chance to push for a playoff birth and suprise many teams with improved play this season.

Melbourne Sharks - How the Sharks will fare this season largely depends on the GMs next move on the TL. With ample spare cash to splurge on talent, the Sharks could become one of the teams to beat. As things stand, behind ex U-21 NT player Jamie Hilton, the team will be able to secure enough wins to remain in the league. Once the GM buys some top-notch talent, watch out because the Sharks will be hunting for Ws.

Vios Violationers - The pre-season favourite to take out the title and be re-promoted back to the second division, Vios possesses a plethora of talent. Superstars Bozo Vasilic, Peter Rowland and Gary Fahey will cause headaches for the rest of the teams in the league. The lack of a true playmaker is the one floor in the teams rotation which could determine whether Vios attains re-promotion or simply a strong playoff run.

Vis Maior - VM returns with enough talent to ensure another playoff birth. Gun SG Elspeth Mulvey will be looked upon to lead this team deep into the playoffs and possibly towards the championship game. No matter what happens, Vis Maior will present tough competition for any opposing team this season.

BIG 8

Adelaide Falcons - The Falcons come into the league with a roster which possesses a lot of role players but no stars. The Falcons might have enough to remain in the league, but it's tough to see this team making any noise in the playoffs unless a true superstar is brought in via the TL.

Adelaide Ravens - Last seasons finalist returns with U-21 NT player Stefano Arcuato leading the way. With some shrewd trading, the Ravens could become to the team to beat. If the squad can trade Gianantonio Gobbi and bring in another star, that will ensure the Ravens are the toughest team in the Big 8. As things stand right now, this team looks set to make another strong playoffs run and possibly once again make the finals only to face an almost overwhelming opposition.

AFGUNZ - AFGUNZ has a solid tandem on the roster in C Aingeru Ortega and SG Xurxo Arnaiz which should ensure this team will avoid relegation. Without a fully-fleshed roster, AFGUNZ may find it difficult to make any serious challenge come playoff time.

Balwyn Bandits - The reigning regular season champions of the Big 8 return after a disappointing early exit from the playoffs. Centre Alvin dela Cruz is a superstar who'll carry this team to moderate success once again. Another superstar similar to dela Cruz's skil level on the roster would turn the Bandits into a championship threat overnight.

Chomps - Chomps comes into season 13 with some good young prospects on their roster but lacking a true superstar to carry the team. With some solid trading, Chomps would push for a playoff birth, but as things stand currently it seems likely the team will be more focused on a relegation battle come seasons end.

Mangoloids - Mangoloids possesses some talent which should help the team avoid relegation. SF Andrea Mazzolini will be asked to lead the team and is expected to produce good numbers being the first option for the squad. With a superstar on the roster, Mangoloids would be a shoe-in for the playoffs.

Popenpop - Popenpop has some solid players on the roster in Centre Emmett Old and SG Cristian Hodgson. The lack of a superstar really hurts the ambition of this team to conquer the Big 8 though. This team as it stands should be good enough for a playoff birth, but it'll only take a couple of major trades by other teams to see Popenpop fighting a relegation battle at seasons end instead.

The Nets - The Nets possess a core group of young players who will continue to grow and one day could be great players, but as things stand this team seems to have a tough time ahead of it if it wants to make a serious push to become a contender for the title.

Holtz did it better back in the day. Nevertheless, I hope you find the run-down entertaining reading. Goodluck to everyone this season. LET THE GAMES BEGIN :)

Great post J-Man! Very Holtz like indeed!

As a newcomer to the league it's good to get a run down of what to expect of the other teams in the comp. I'm feeling a little bit of pressure now after a couple of ppl pumping my team up for big things this season. Hopefully my lads won't disappoint.

My team certainly does have a strong back court and my aim this season and next is to give them the front court support they deserve. I already made one step in the right direction picking up my new SG/PG at last season's end. Majority of my training will be directed at the short blokes this season.

I noticed the Giraffe's have added a new centre to their side just in time for game 1. Nifty pick up but he's gonna have a hard job against my twin towers! Looks like he has a decent PG and lets not forget his SG that made the allstar game last season. Those boys will need to be on fire from outside to steal the W.

Also my tip for game of the week has to be the game 1 rematch from last season between DFBS and Vis Maior! After having a good look at both line ups, I probably have to lean towards DFBS winning with just too much talent across the board. Knowing Kilrtom all too well, I wouldn't be placing money on it though! Personally I see DFBS as the team to beat and look forward to the battle of the bigs when we match up.
