No I would not throw away the foundation laid. But I think you need to look at the side and balance. IF you have 2 32 year olds in the squad with same levels and a 28 year old with the same also you would have to consider putting the 28 year old in to give him experience so when the 32 year olds are past their best he is ready to be the main guy.
If the full squad was 32 and you had to replace them all it would mean for a bit the side was weaker.
I also think the side should aim to with the Asian Championship but in picking the best side you need to consider the best side for the next year and the year after. My point was about balance in the side.
Spots would never be given away. Talking to Whitebeard the best tool to encourage coaches to train guys fully is to make sure they have earnt their spot in the team. But the goal would be to have various options in players to pick for each position. And then a balance between age and experience needs to be considered for the long term and short term benefit of the team.

Doing write ups for games is a great toll to encourage others in the community to be interested in the Nt side and then to be interested in training players for it. I would make sure write ups are done and also with help of others add some extra features like history of players in the NT side. Learning about how these players came about including talk to their coaches about how they were trained would be of great benefit for coaches interested in being able to train a player.
Training a NT player is a lot of commitment for a coach. Guys in ABBL needs these type of guys to play for them but can find it difficult to find training minutes for them. While other teams who are freer to train would struggle to afford them.
Anything that can be done to engage old and new coaches would be of benefit to the team.
I would like to get those who have trained current NT players if they are willing to offer their support to guys trying to finish off the next bunch of players in same position. Their experience would not only help with training plans but also help keep these coaches motivated to keep going.

Yes I understand that but if you look at the current squad there isn't that case at the moment we haven't got that problem Mansfield will be replace by walker and bogan who are younger. The squad currently has that but I'd much prefer two 32 year olds with that greater experience being in a championship game on the final seconds. I understand trading out a 33/34 year old with decking skills for a player who is 27/28 as they will still be gaining skills while the other player is declining.

The current team I wouldn't change this season drastically if at all. Next season there maybe 1 or 2 changes but there are currently players to step straight up this is when you usually find a good 26+ guy with skills to make it that's when they'll start to see game time and see growth in experience

I'd also prefer two 32 year olds in proficient game shape than a 27 yr old who swaps and changes in gameshape week to week.

I believe the best players should play and they are usually between the ages of 27 and 32 and have a dedicated manager that will keep gameshape in proficient most weeks

Again, great responses from you both. As a voter I want to know what your plans are (short term and long term) and through your responses I feel I have a better understanding.

Will there be anyone else challenging these two?

Gameshape is a bigger thing then skill levels. The best player in the world with poor GS will not be a good player at this level.
I would not make changes to the current squad at this stage. But as the season progresses the the younger guys develop I would look to add them when they are useful to the side. The older guys in the squad do have players ready to almost take their spot. Which is a good thing. The point I was making is that finding these next players and making sure they are ready to go is vital for the teams long term success.

At some point a older player needs to be replaced. If there is a 12 team base squad. 5 starters, 5 back ups and 2 reserves I would be looking to try and include the younger players as the 2 reserves as soon as they are ready.

The side should be picked to win the current game but there will be some chances to give select younger guys some experience. A current player might be nearing his time and there is a clear guy in line to take his place. I would look to include him in the squad and try and give him some game time even as a reserve or back up vs weaker sides we will still beat. But not till their skills are at a suitable level. Again there needs to be balance in this and each player added removed needs to be looked at carefully before any changes are made.

The players also need to fit the system of the coach. As mentioned before if the effect of the changes to LI mean teams need to play a different style the players build will also need to be altered. At present the players the side can use are limited so the coach has to make the system work with the players. I would like one day we have enough depth at NT level the players can be chosen to fit the system which will work best.

It has been pretty clearly established within the australian system of national coaching that assistants and delegation should play an important role, so my question to the candidates is

What staff roles are you planning on maintaining, or establishing as part of your structures, and how would you seek to best fill these staffing positions?

Yeah, I will, and I'll usher in an era of Marmot dominance!

Seriously. No, I'm serious, if you vote for me i will only have my own players on the team.

Honestly though -I think if we don't have any ABBL managers then it has to be one of these two guys. If an ABBL'er throws their hat in the ring, they *may* get my vote - only may, as these guys have been impressive.

To the two of you - if, hypothetically, an experienced ABBL coach did enter the race - what would you offer, that they would not?

As I have mentioned before I would like to have the coaches who trained the current NT players to mentor coaches of players who are a few seasons away from making the side. Their experience with training will benefit the younger player and coach as well as motivate and build more connections between our community. This would be for the guys at least a few seasons away (24 to 26 as a guide). I would look after those who are closer (27+).

There would be positions for people to work with coaches of players from 20 years old to help them with their builds for the benefit or their own sides as well as the NT side. It would be best if we had one person for each position. By 20 we will have a good idea if the player is moving towards being a NT player.

It would be great is we could get a Media Manager to help with press releases and informing the community about the success the side will have.

I also hope to set up a advisory board of experienced coaches who I can call upon for input on major issues. Before putting my hand up I spoke to a couple of these people to check they would be willing to offer advise. This knowledge bank will be of great benefit to me and the side in general.

Lastly I hope to engage people more on the off site forum. This is were all Australians will be able to ask questions and have input on orders and lineups with full details there to see.

I see myself as a manager of our community who needs to take our collective knowledge and skills and access the data and come up with a suitable plan of action.

There would also be the positions of assistant coach for one person to be my right hand man. If I was to win the role I would hope Brooksy would be keen to take this role so we can work together.

All coaches within Australia would be offered the chance to put their hands up for roles. And I would also approach people I know well for roles. The Advisory board almost picks itself and the 1st people I would approach would be these people.
Do you see yourself playing a part in the NT side? I would be keen to try and involve as many people as possible. But to make this involvement meaningful there will be a limit of the number of people who can take on roles.

If I can not find someone suitable to any role it would fall to me to cover that job.

Thanks RabidCamel.

1st as you only have Australian players on your roster if that was the Australian roster they would get very tied. ;)

None of the ABBLers are willing to put in the time to do this role. This is a good thing that they know this and not going for the role when they know they do not have the commitment to do the job, team and community justice.

This commitment is the most important thing in my eyes. While a few people bothered to press the button to put their name on the list for me I only see 3 of the people making post here at all and 2 taking up most the room. This to me shows that if people can not have input now how will they last 2 seasons (6 months) of the work load required to give the role to time it needs.

To me unless one of the greats entered the race I would still prefer Brooksy to get the role then someone just because they are ABBL. That is of course excluding me. I would of course prefer me in the role.

I would consider taking on a position if I felt there was a defined role I would be suitable and capable of taking on, but my big concern is there being "too many cooks"

I think an assistant coach is essential and love the idea of a media manager. The concept of the advisory board is an interesting one, and the offiste forum is important, but I am firm believer in the chosen boss making the final decision and would hate to think the team was being run entirely by committee.

For this reason I did like seeing this

...there will be a limit of the number of people who can take on roles.

The Perth Players
I will be replying to all questions above a bit later today. A couple of thoughts now though, I believe players should make our national team based around talent and skills they have to offer not age. So older players would have a position on our national team if I was to become the national team manager. A balance would need to be struck of course as younger players would need to join the team when they have acquired the necessary skill so they can gain experience on our National Team. Younger players would not be pushed on to our National Team before they are ready as this would serve to encourage managers to continue to train them. I believe everyone here would want our National Team to be the best it can be and I believe in picking the best guys we have to form the core of our team and having the upcoming younger talents as back ups to give them experience and have them available to fill in if one of the core is injured.

I also want to emphasis my commitment to this role and helping our National Team should I not be elected I would like to assist as I have more time available than I have had before
