Match of the Round

Home Axis vs. Mangoloids 92 - 85

The formidable Axis side were to face another challenge in some delightful fruits. Halfway through the first things were fairly even with Axis leading 10 - 9. A nice 0 - 9 spurt for the Mangoloids saw them go into quarter tie with a narrow 2 point lead. There was no dominating performances to make not of in the first quarter, just some very entertaining ball. Mango's extended the lead to 6 leading 27 - 33 midway through the second. It appears that Axis has all the luck with Mango's young gun Luke McCaskie hitting the floor hard on an Ignacio Sanchez foul. In the absence of McCaskie, their opponents Home Axis pulled their way back into the lead holding a 42-41 lead at halftime. Leading the Axis lineup was Paco Garrido who in the second quarter raced away to 15 points and a couple of steals. Mango's on the other hand had an incredibly even scoring half with players scoring 8,6,6,6,6,5,4 for their points.

Coming out after the half with a man down the Mango's found it hard going stopping Garrido and Sanchez. Axis clawing away to an 8 point lead with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd. Axis also finished off the quarter strong winning it by 12 and taking a 74 - 61 lead into the last over the bruised Mango's. Sanchez led the Axis charge with 23 points and 14 rebounds with a quarter to go. Garrido was travelling along nicely with 21 points, while Eder Arbizu was trying to keep his team in touch with 17. A solid first 3 minutes for Mango's had them within 6 points behind a couple of baskets from Arbizu. A further 3 minutes and the lead was 80 - 77 after a Jasper Bains 3 pointer. Mango's could get no closer than 3 points and let this one slip away.

3 votes - Home Axis - Ignacio Sánchez - 27 points 20 rebounds

Sanchez had a great game, especially his 3rd quarter of 14 points and 4 rebounds. The 3rd was where the game was blown apart, and it was Sanchez that lit that 3rd quarter up.

2 votes - Mangoloids - Eder Arbizu - 23 points 11 rebounds

Eder did a great job on MVP leader Irinel Stancu allowing him to score only 10 points which is a long way his usual standards. Eder also did some great offensive work scoring a team high 23 points of 11-23 shooting

1 vote - Home Axis - Paco Garrido - 25 points 6 assists 3 steals

Paco was a bright light in the first half and had an efficient scoring night shooting 8-13 along with 4-6 from downtown. He was all over his opponent shooting guards. Fouling one out and keeping the other to 2-12 shooting

Geelong Vipers vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 79 - 98

Eggplants never looked in doubt in this game. A solid 16 - 29 quarter. Nicola Pisanu started like a firecracker dropping 15 points in the first, while Francois Cartier put in 9 for the Vipers. Unfortunately for Pisanu he was cut down at the start of the second. Cartier led the Vipers in the second quarter and got them within 6 points midway through the second behind great work from Cartier who had 17 points at this point from 6-8 shooting. With Pisanu still leading the Eggplants still in scoring, it just shows that the Vipers must have clearly frustrated their opponents in the second. Cartier was causing the Eggplant's all kinds of trouble with 19 points 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Eggplants were all over the Vipers again in the 3rd winning it 27-20 without their main man Pisanu. Helmuts Puika took over from Pisanu with 18 points 5 rebounds 6 assists and 4 steals going into the last. Cartier continued to with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The last quarter was a formality for players to pad some stats with the Eggplants coming out comfortable victors by 19.

3 votes - Eggplantpopolopolous - Helmuts Puika - 20 points 5 rebounds 6 assists 5 steals
Helmuts was all over his opposing point guard keeping him to 1-10 along with acquiring 5 steals on his travels. Helmuts was his teams highest scorer and took over from Pisanu in leading his team to a 'W'

2 votes - Geelong Vipers - Francois Cartier - 28 points 12 rebounds 6 assists 3 blocks

Cartier led his team all night and had some great stats while at it. He shot over 50% and 5-7 from the line. with 6 assists and 3 blocks to round out his night he was clearly the most valuable player to the Vipers.

1 vote - Eggplantpopolopolous - Nicola Pisanu - 15 points 13 minutes

This may seem stupid but had Nicola played more than 13 minutes he would have been a shoe-in for at least 2 votes. Scoring his 15 points from 6-10 shooting from the field and 3-5 from 3pt all in the 1st quarter. He really set his team up to win in his 13 minutes

Shepparton shooters vs. Amos rogues 80 - 96

The Amos Rogues have had a resurgence after their recent inability to get a decent lineup on the court. The game was an arm-wrestle in the first ending at 21 - 21. There were no outstanding performances in the first as it looked be turning into a real dog-fight. Rogues managed to jump away to a 39 - 46 lead in the last few minutes of the second. Andris Cugers was the best player for the Rogues in the first half with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Leading the Shooters was Adrián Ahuir with a nice first half of 8 points 6 assists 5 rebounds.

Shooters couldn't make any headway into the deficit with the Rogues leading 53 - 62 midway through the period. Rogues continued to pull away in the second part of the 3rd quarter, taking a 15 point lead into the last. Zarpas Oyarzabal and his Legendary handling and driving was leading a highlight for the rogues at this point, with 13 points 6 rebounds 4 assists. Former U21 star Junel Viojan had a cameo performance for the Shooters with 16 points and 16 rebounds. The 4th was merely a formality as the Rogues ran out relatively comfortable winners. Could they be back?

3 votes - Amos Rogues - Andris Cugers - 21 points 21 rebounds

A great 21-21 game from an efficient 7 from 12 shooting. He also had 6 offensive rebounds to go with his 15 defensive. Most valuable player in a pretty even performance for the Rogues

2 votes - Shepparton Shooters - Junel Viojan - 26 points 21 rebounds 3 steals 2 blocks

How valuable was Viojan? look at it this was he top scored for his team and without his 21 rebounds, who knows how dirty this loss may have got.

1 vote - Amos Rogues - Giuseppe Zordan - 23 points 5 assists

Zordan top scored for his team with 23, although he wasn't as efficient as some of his teammates he did throw 5 assists to his grateful teammates

Brisbane Thunder vs. Whompas Donkeys 76 - 94

The Donkeys who have surprised many this season went in solid favourites against the up and coming Thunder. The question is could the Thunder slow down the high scoring Dewey Bowers who will be looking to have an impact after a few quiet games. The Thunder only suiting up 6 players will have to take a lead into the last or have incredible stamina to win this game. At quarter time the Thunder were running with the Donkeys trailing by only 1 point, 19 - 20. Dewey looked like he was up for a big one early leading the Donkeys with 7 points in the first. But he was outdone by Cristiano Semoni with 12 points and 7 rebounds in the first 12 mins. The next 6 minutes won the game for the donkeys with them outscoring the Thunder by 17 - 4. Dewey went hectic in those six minutes piling on 11 more of the best. A marvelous quarter from the donkeys winning it by 17 points gave them an 18 point lead at the half. Dewey led the scorers with 18, but the most important thing to consider is that Thunder key player Semoni only had 2 points in the 2nd.

Thunder won the 3rd quarter, but they didnt make significant headway only winning it 22 - 21. Semoni joined the game again after being AWOL in the 2nd, dropping 10 points to take his tally to 24. Dewey was close behind on 23. The last was another close quarter with another 1 point difference. Semoni was good again in the last finishing with a game high 31 points and 21 rebounds.

3 votes - Whompas Donkeys - Dewey Bowers - 24 points 4 assists

Dewey top scored for his team and when the game was won Dewey scored 11 points at the start of the second. Along with 5 - 8 from 3pt. Needless to say Dewey is the most valuable player on the Donkeys roster on most nights.

2 votes - Brisbane Thunder - Cristiano Semoni - 31 points 21 rebounds

Fantastic game by the Thunders best player, however his absence in the second quarter cost his team the game, it typifies how valuable he was to the Thunder.

1 vote - Whompas Donkeys - Jordi Monroig - 17 points 18 rebounds 3 blocks

Jordi was consistent again tonite with a typical 17 points and 18 rebounds from the big guy. He was imposing on defense with his 3 blocks which helped keep his opponent to 4-11.

Round 10

Possum Chasers vs. Brisbane Thunder 114 - 67

Another hard day in the office for the Thunder was predicted in this one. In a Div III.6 battle PP and Leeroy should've known what the other Manager was going to bring. It appears they had a fair idea with PP playing 3-2 to Leeroy's Push the Ball and Leeroy brought his 2-3 zone to PP's Look Inside. Niccolo Galletta got some of his own back 6 and a half minutes into this game off a flagrant foul from Marcel Wambersie. Despite being a starter down the Possum's charged to a 26 - 17 quarter time lead. Possum's extended the lead to 13 points in the second. Thunder was lead again by Semoni with 13 points at the half. He was doing most of it at the line 9-10 free-throws. An even performance saw the Possum's leading, but TT was a highlight performance with a double double 10 points 10 rebounds.

Possum Chasers' continued to make this a dirty affair for the thunder winning the 3rd 30 - 15. TT leading with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Semoni was working hard with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Fu Yueli was exciting to watch with 10 assists heading into the last. Another rout in the last ended Thunder's atrocious night. TT sat the bench in the last but just take a look at the fact that 7 Possum Chasers players scored 10+ points, why would you need TT on the court.

3 votes - Possum Chasers - Trinh Trinh - 18 points 16 rebounds 3 blocks

TT was great in only 28 mins, he put the Thunder defence in a world of hurt and was only outscored by his teammate Halliday in 'garbage time'. TT was an efficient 7-12 aswell.

2 votes - Possum Chasers - Carl Halliday - 23 points 6 rebounds 4 blocks

You know your doing well when you drop 23 points in 20 minutes, but to also have the ability to play some great defense with 4 blocks, only problem was a whole heap was in garbage time.

1 vote - Possum Chasers - Fu Yueli - 12 points 16 assists 3 steals

Fu played all the game but he was having a brilliant night throwing 16 'kung fu' dimes. You can chalk that up to another 32 Possum's points as a result of Fu's game.

shepparton shooters vs. Maggots 87 - 75

The still tanking Maggots went into this game rank outsiders with the Shepparton Shooters looking for their 3rd PL win of the season. The fans at ANZ stadium were treated to a first quarter exhibition by the Shooters. They outscored the Maggots 29 - 8 with Junel Viojan having 7 points and 10 rebounds. Adrian Ahuir also popped up with 5 assists. Suprisingly the Maggots were better in the 2nd winning it 13 - 15, however still trailing 42 - 23 it was a miniature step in the right direction. Xiong Weipeng was the only player to have a double-double at the half with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Christian Brakenhoff led the Maggots with 10 points, but thats about all that was happening with the Maggots.

Shooters took control again in the 3rd taking a 66 - 38 lead into the last. Viojan going into the last with 22 points and 20 rebounds just infront of fellow Shooter Weipeng with 18 points 20 rebounds. A massive garbage time 4th quarter for the Maggots made the scoreline look a respectable 12 points at the final buzzer. Brak and Rob Welsh had some fun in the last scoring 23 and 19 points a piece.

3 votes - Shepparton Shooters - Junel Viojan - 26 points 23 rebounds 2 blocks

Viojan is making a late charge for a MVP title with a 20-20 game from 11-20 shooting. 7 of Junel's rebounds were also offensive which was 2 less than that of the Maggots whole side.

2 votes - Shepparton Shooters - Xiong Weipeng - 18 points 20 rebounds

Weipeng went toe-to-toe with his bud Junel for the 3 votes but just didnt manage to out-perform Junel falling 5 points short. Shooting just under 50% was also a fraction worse than Junel. But a great performance from Xiong.

1 vote - Maggots - Rob Welsh - 19 points 8 rebounds

Rob was the only Maggot to have a positive +/- differential with the Maggots being 12 points better than the Shooters when he was on the court. Dropping 19 points from 8-15 shooting he was the most effective player for his side.

Match of the Round

Bainsynators plebs vs. Mangoloids 74 - 83

The Mango's were probably favourites going into their matchup with the Plebs, and they showed why early scoring the first 7 points in 3 mins. The Plebs found a gear and managed to stay with the Mango's trailing 16 - 21 at the end of the 1st. It could be almost called Mangoloids vs Terroso, because Antonio Terroso was the only Plebs player doing anything. His stats were 4-6 Fg, 10 pts, 11 rebs, 2 OR, while the rest of the team had 3-14 Fg 6 pts, 2 rebs, 2 asts, 3 blks, 4 to's... If the Plebs had any chance of staying with the Mango's they would need more than one player. Mango's however also had a standout performer in the 1st with Eder Arbizu who had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in a great 12 minutes. Surprisingly the Plebs got withing a point midway through the second trailing 30 - 31 despite still riding on the back of Terroso who had 16 points and 14 rebounds, with the rest of his team combining for a pitiful 4 boards. The Mango's continued to push and took a 34 - 40 lead into the half. Arbizu had 13 points 6 rebounds 4 assists and 3 steals, and absolutely wreaking havoc on the Plebs. Terroso finished with an impressive 16 points 15 rebounds at the half, he may need to do similar in the second half for the Plebs to win.

The Mangoloids looked to have broken the Plebs when they pushed the lead to 9 points halfway through the 3rd. Bainsynator88, the plebs manager thought that the elastic was on the precipice of snapping and the Mango's running away in a blowout. But they weren't gone yet, with a late 3rd quarter charge which saw the Mango's only take a 52 - 55 lead into an exciting last. Terroso was still the Plebs great white hope with 20 points and 18 rebounds. Arbizu continued to help his team maintain the narrow lead with 16 points with a quarter to play. Amazingly enough the Plebs hit the lead at the beginning of the last from a big two-handed dunk from guess who????? Antonio Terroso. He then hit 2 free throws a minute later to give his team all the momentum and a 3 point lead, forcing the Mangoloids to call a timeout. The play was tense as time expired. Matubol put his team back infront by 4 with 6 mins to go. Fortunately for the Mango's the Plebs could not bridge the gap after that as they have the inherent 3 pt shooting problem, unable to hit any on the night. Great win by the Mango's

3 votes - Bainsynators Plebs - António Terroso - 28 points 21 rebounds

Was not in the winning side, but bloody hell he was the most valuable player on the court. Shooting 12-20 for hi 28 points. i just couldn't imagine how much a rout this would have been without 'the terrorist' in the first half.

2 votes - Mangoloids - Eder Arbizu - 22 points 10 rebounds 4 assists 3 steals

Eder was clearly his teams most important player with a team high 22 points off a very efficient 9-14 shooting. Eder although guarding Terroso was the only player in the first half that looked as if he could go with 'the terrorist' offensively.

1 votes - Mangoloids - Sofronio Mabutol - 17 points 12 rebounds

Sofronio gave his team the 2 bucket lead in the last which they were able to hold onto. He also shot an nice 8-13 and was able to keep his opposing C to a dismal 5 rebounds in 41 mins

Home Axis vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 75 - 99

Had a full Axis squad been here for this one it could have produced some fireworks. However the top of the table, injury struck Home Axis side were a few eggs short of a carton, meaning the the Eggplant's would go into this game as favourites. A spirited Axis side stayed close early only trailing by 3 midway through the first. But a far stronger Eggplant side extended the score to 16 - 25 by the end of the 1st. Kornelijus Stonevicius led his team in the first with 7 points 3 rebounds and 2 assists, while Paco Garrido was dominating the scoring with 12 for Home Axis. The second quarter was exciting for the spectators as Home Axis steadied and were able to go with their opponents with the quarter finishing 27 - 27. Eggplant's were maintaining their 9 point lead on the back of Nicola Pisanu's 13 points and Igotz Arrantz 10. Paco had an AMAZING quarter dropping 19 points in 12 minutes. With 33 points at the half Paco was on his way to a 50+ point game. The main problem Home Axis were having was that only 4 of their players had scored and only two had scored more than 1 point.

This was almost certainly Home Axis first PL loss this season with the Eggplant's grabbing a 59 - 80 point lead with 12 to go. Nicola again kept up the Eggplant charge with 24 points. Paco was on fire dropping another 10 points. only needing 7 more to reach the highlight reel 50 points. At one point it was heard ChuckyFE the Eggplant manager actually dialled 000 for someone to put out the on fire spaniard. The Eggplant's improved their lead but that was merely a formality as the main show was Paco Garrido. However it was never in doubt with Paco going past 50 for a 53 point night. That is 31 more than the remainder of his team.

3 votes - Home Axis - Paco Garrido - 53 points 6 steals

Paco was in a losing side... but any day you scored 53 you are bloody valuable to your team

2 votes - Eggplantpopolopolous - Nicola Pisanu - 24 points

Nicola once again lead his side in scoring, although it wasn't quite on the level of Paco, but he did keep his opponent to 5 points in 48 minutes.

1 vote - Eggplantpopolopolous - Kornelijus Stonevicius - 9 points 7 rebounds 5 assists

No other players really did enough to warrant a vote. Stoney had a rounded night and only played 18 minutes. He was arguably the best player in the first also

Western Titans vs. Amos rogues 100 - 86

The Titans still having a chance at top spot needed a win against the Rogues. The Titans took the lead in the first by 5 points. They followed it up by scoring 30 points in the second to extend the lead to 12. The 53 - 41 lead was thanks to contributions from Huo Hengquan with 16 points and Uditi Samdup with 10. Meanwhile Alex Casse had a game high 17 for the Rogues at the half.

Another 7 point quarter win for the Titans gave them a 79 - 60 lead and virtually the win with a quarter to go. Hengquan continued his good work with 21 points from 9 of 16 shooting. Casse also had 21 for the Rogues however his shooting performance was in no comparison to that of Hengquan. A 21 - 26 last quarter win against the Titans bench gave the scoreline some respectability.

3 votes - Western Titans - Huo Hengquan - 21 points 6 rebounds

Huo sat out the last so he could have possibly had 30+ points. He only played 31 minutes so his 21 points is pretty impressive. 9-16 shooting is a handy night out.

2 votes - Amos Rogues - Alex Casse - 29 points

Casse didnt do much else but score, but when your teammates are shooting as poorly as they were scoring is what your team needs as a point guard.

1 vote - Western Titans - Bento Filho - 16 points 9 rebounds

Bento had a nice night, scoring his 16 points from only 9 shots. A rebound away from a double double and 3 assist in only 30 minutes. You have to be happy with that.

Geelong Vipers vs. Whompas Donkeys 97 - 92

Whompas Donkeys went in favourite against the up and coming Geelong Vipers. It was a question of whether the Vipers big inside attack could do enough damage to the even donkeys to get the win. It was a tight affair in the first with the Donkeys holding a narrow 17 - 19 lead from 8 points from their scoring guard Dewey Bowers and 10 rebounds by their big man Jordi Monroig. While for the Vipers Ace Dispo was doing some great work with 10 points and 5 rebounds. With the entertaining first half finished, fortunately for the spectators were gonna see a game with the Donkeys still leading but only 42 - 45. Dewey with a fantastic quarter where he scored 18 of his sides 26 points, took his tally for the night to 28. Dispo also dropped 12 points for his side in the quarter, ending it with 22 points.

In the 3rd this game continued to excite with the Vipers continuing to challenge the favoured Donkeys. Trailing 64 -68 the Vipers were in striking distance. Francois Cartier was the player to inject the venom for the Vipers in the 3rd with 20 points and 15 rebounds to his name heading to the last. Dewey slowed somewhat in the 3rd but still had a fantastic 34 points. Finally in the last the Vipers were able to strike the Donkeys where it hurt to salvage a 5 point win.

3 votes - Geelong Vipers - François Cartier - 26 points 20 rebounds 4 steals 2 blocks

Cartier had a fantastic game, especially in the second half, finishing with a 20-20 and a couple of nice steals and blocks. The efficient 11-15 shooting must see Cartier nearing a top 10 MVP finish this season.

2 votes - Whompas Donkeys - Dewey Bowers - 45 points

Dewey did what he does best dropping 45 points on his hapless Vipers opponents, but occasionally Dewey should look to set up his teammates and maybe his team will be better for it. Another man who must be almost cemented in the top 10

1 - Geelong Vipers - Ace Dispo - 28 points 14 rebounds 4 blocks

Ace 'disco' Dispo was the spearhead of the Vipers attack in the first half only to be narrowly upstage by his teammate and the scoring machine Bowers. a 28-14 double double is great in anyones books, but to add 4 blocks aswell, i take my hat off to you sir.
