Whompas Donkeys vs. All-Sorts 92 - 112 (36141658)

The Donkeys who were sitting on 1 win heading in to this one were always going to have a tough time beating 2nd place All-Sorts. Staying in the game early, the Donkeys were belted in the 2nd quarter and were never able to recover against a very classy opposition. All-Sorts keep their finals spot for the meantime. but with a few times chasing hard they we need to continue to performing as they did in this one. Donkeys unfortunately look like they will take the wooden spoon unless they can find a win in the next 2 weeks.

3 votes - All-Sorts - Romuald Palierne - 19 points 15 rebounds 3 steals

The frenchman had a fantastic night in only 38 minutes shooting 70% and grabbing 15 rebounds. Adding 3 steals Palierne looks better than his cheap 16k salary suggests.

2 votes - Whompas Donkeys - Medartas Tvarijanavicius - 29 points 17 rebounds

Medartas had a game high 29 points and 17 rebounds, on the back of 11-19 shooting. 7 of his rebounds were on the offensive end. The only blemish on his performance was his 6 turnovers.

1 vote - All-Sorts - Mohd Syamsuri bin Mat Noor - 19 points 14 rebounds

Mat Noor was efficient in his time on the court with 6-10 shooting and 7-8 from the free-throw line. For a big man he did well holding onto the ball, not turning over the ball once.

South MVP Leaderboard (after 9 rounds)

And there were 3... with Underwood, TT and Sudzinski all getting maximum points in their games. Underwood is on the precipice of winning the title with Sudzinski only mathematically being able to tie Underwood at the top the only contender left is TT. Big movers this week were Gab Wall who moves into joint 4th position and O'Daire moving into within range of a top 5 finish.

With Possum Chasers playing in a top of the table clash vs All-Sorts, TT will need to be at his best to get maximum votes. On the otherhand TEAM LORDY play the Gladiators who may find it hard to stop Underwood. Or do they have a secret weapon to stop the MVP Leader???

Round 10

Rampaging Marmots vs. Yarra Park Bears 125 - 79 (36141666)

There was a good 4 spots separating these two sides on the table, however with both in intense tank mode the Marmots go in favourites because they are likely to play at least a starting 5 unlike the Bears 4 man lineup. The Bears decided they could do without the 4th and fielded a 3 man team who were drubbed all night. Being beat in the rebounds 72-28 they were never really in the hunt.

3 votes – Rampaging Marmots – Dan Gardner – 56 points 34 rebounds

Possibly the best individual performance in the Fishbowl… Ever! Gardner knocked down a phenomenal 27 - 38 from the field and a monstrous 34 rebounds. The thing that takes some emphasis out of the performance is he did all this on no opponent. If he could get that stat-line on a player then I may be a little more impressed.

2 votes – Rampaging Marmots – Barry O’Daire – 33 points 8 rebounds 13 assists 5 steals

Pretty much the same as Gardner, his night was made easy by the lack of Bears players. But there you go have 2 votes.

1 vote – Yarra Park Bears - Kamil Szuwarek – 31 point 7 rebounds 3 blocks

Kamil had alright stats but he was getting a lot of touches of the orange with only 2 teammates so you would expect as much.

Mad Rangas vs. Mangoloids 69 - 87 (36141664)

With the Mangoloids only 1 spot above the Rangas this looked as though it could be another interesting match. But it depended on what the considerably cheaper Mad Rangas team brought to the table. Mad Rangas would also be looking for a low scoring match to keep the 12th placed Donkeys behind them on PD should they win. The Mangoloids had a big 1st quarter where they pounded the Rangas on the boards and set themselves up with an 11 point lead. The momentum of the game switched several times after that quarter with the Mangoloids running out comfortable 18 point winners in the low-scoring game they were looking for.

3 votes – Mangoloids – Luke McCaskie – 18 points 6 rebounds 5 steals

McCaskie has had a quiet season compared to his usual standards, however he was great in this game hitting 45%. Luke also wreaked havoc on the Ranga offense with 5 steals. He did a great job defensively keeping his opponent to 22% from the field and 0-5 from long.

2 votes – Mangoloids – Luca Batini – 17 points 20 rebounds

Luca was fantastic with 6-8 shooting and a game high 20 rebounds capped off his night.

1 vote – Mad Rangas – Gabriel Wall – 21 points 14 rebounds

The ‘Great Wall’ tried himself at PF as was asked of him by his manager. We can only assume this was to avoid the Mangoloids big-man Batini. Wall played well with a double double, and a game high 21 points off 56% shooting. Hopefully in the future we will be able to see this superstar in the making not shy away from a matchup with the best bigs in the division.

Eggplantpopolopolous vs. Home Axis 77 - 86 (36141662)

This match was between two teams that have been on a bit of a rise recently in the South division with the Eggplant’s looking to keep their slim chances of a finals spot alive. Home Axis however was looking to try and catch the teams at 5-4 and climb into the top half with a win in this one. The Home Axis slowly prised open an 8 point lead thanks to their proficient inside scoring. A tight second half saw Home Axis get away with a 9 point win. The win thrusted Home Axis up to 6th on the table and a possible top 5 finish if results go their way next week.

3 votes – Eggplantpopolopolous – Nicola Pisanu – 21 points 8 rebounds 6 assists 4 steals

‘Pissonyou’ had a titanic battle with Axis PG Garrido all game. Nicola gets the nod despite his team losing because of the service he gave to his teammates with 6 assists and 4 steals. Also only turning the ball over 3 times to Garrido’s 5, shows he was that little bit more efficient with the ball.

2 votes – Home Axis – Paco Garrido – 26 points 7 rebounds 5 steals

Paco had the tight battle with ‘Pissonyou’ and just came up short. His team was able to grab the win which is a little consolation for him after hitting 10-12 from the stripe and taking the ball away 5 times. The 5 TO’s is the only blemish on his performance.

1 vote – Home Axis - Melchor Manzanera – 17 points 16 rebounds

Home Axis lost the battle on the boards, however fortunately for them Manzanera had a handy 16 rebounds and 6 offensive boards to keep them in the game. Not a bad season for Manazera.

Whompas Donkeys vs. Beasts Red 72 - 83 (36141663)

The Donkeys looking for their 2nd win and a chance to get out of last position, line up against the Beasts Red outfit that has been a bit of a revelation this season with a 5-4 and a chance to take 5th spot with a win here. The plight of the Donkeys started promisingly winning the first quarter 22-18. From then on the game went back and forwards with the Beasts holding a 1 point lead with the last to go. A 15-25 quarter saw the Beasts run out 11 point winners over a gallant Donkeys team. The loss leaves the Donkeys with one last chance to catch those elusive Rangas next week.

3 votes – Beasts Red – Neil Tambyraja – 30 points 4 assists

The Beasts star was back from a week stint on the sideline and wasted no time imposing himself on this game and finding some form heading into next weeks grudge match with the high-flying Possum’s. Neil shot 10-17 from the floor, along with 5-8 from beyond the arc and 5-6 from the line. He will be pivotal in next weeks game, after a reasonably quiet season.

2 votes – Whompas Donkeys - Ignacio Santana – 19 points 16 rebounds

Santana shot just under 50% which isn’t a bad effort, but adding that with 16 rebounds he made his presence felt inside the key. Unfortunately his team fell just short.

1 vote – Beasts Red – Dong Hanping – 15 points 16 rebounds

Dong gets the 1 vote just infront of Bowers whose main downfall was his 6 fouls, considering how effective the Beasts were from the line. Hanping however helped his cause with 50% shooting for a 15-16 double double.

Possum Chasers vs. All-Sorts 114 - 104 (36141665)

A top of the table clash which could be a preview of the final or conversely a nail in the All-Sorts coffin should they lose. The Possums would need to play some tight defense against the top scoring team in the South division. A promising start by the Possums was to be quashed by their opponents with the All-Sorts fighting back to lead by 6 at the half. TT struggled to get going fouling out in 29 minutes and putting an end to his chances at a second consecutive MVP title. Despite TT’s foul out the Possum’s grasped the ascendency and got away with a great 10 point, sowing up a finals spot.

3 votes – Possum Chasers - Efe Utku Yurdatap – 42 points 5 assists

Another one of the Possum’s big time purchases was massive in their win knocking down 15-29 for a game high 42 points. 9-11 from the free-throw line and 5 assists caps of a ripper game.

2 votes – Possum Chasers - Luca Cieckan – 27 points 18 rebounds

Luca is having a fantastic season and continued his form in this game. Luca shot 9-16 for his 27 points to go along with 18 boards. His efficiency gets him the two. Luca might squeeze into a top 10 finish with another performance like this.

1 vote – All-Sorts - Mohd Syamsuri bin Mat Noor – 25 points 16 rebounds 3 blocks

Mat Noor was the best All-Sorts player with 10-18 shooting for his 25 points. 16 rebounds and a few blocks doesn’t hurt either. He will need to perform next week should his team make the final.

Gisborne Gladiators vs. TEAM LORDY 88 - 105 (36141661)

This matchup had a lot riding on it for TEAM LORDY. A win here meant they were still in with a chance to make the finals, even in the driving seat should All-Sorts lose. Also the game of Ross Underwood would be under a lot of scrutiny as he has a chance to virtually wrap up the MVP with a ‘Player of the Game’ performance. If there was one thing that is clearly noticeable in this game it is that the sale of Suelves from Gladiators at the start of the season has really hurt their inside game, rating inept in IS and RB. There were some tactical mistakes made by the Gladiators manager (yours truly) despite predicting that their oppositions start Ross Underwood would line up at C, I played my best inside defender on him, with a total disregard for the damage Ross would do outside. The result was Terroso fouling out in only 14 minutes. Without an decent inside presence TEAM LORDY climbed into 2nd with a collected 17 point win.

3 votes – TEAM LORDY – Ross Underwood – 54 points

With another high-scoring performance, it was a toss up for the 3 votes between Ross and Wsol, despite shooting 19-52 Ross did score 54 points and was instrumental in cause Gladiators leading vote getter Terroso out in quick fashion. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you your Season 5 South Most Valuable Player!!!!

2 votes – TEAM LORDY - Orest Wsól – 18 points 26 rebounds

The big Pole was instrumental in exploiting the lack of power inside for the Gladiators shooting 7-13 for his 18 points to go along with his game high 26 boards. Could have got the 3 if not for Terroso’s foul out.

1 vote – Gisborne Gladiators – Igor Zakharov – 30 points 4 assists

Igor ‘Zak-Attak’ Zakharov has been important in the latter part of the season and was crucial for the Gladiators in this game knocking down 30 points off 13-25 shooting, while keeping his opponent to a mere 7 points. Without much inside Igor had to make his own shots and gets a well-deserved vote. Hopefully we will see a lot more of Igor in seasons to come.

So it is official Ross Underwood of TEAM LORDY is our Season 5 South MVP. Congratulations to the victor after TT flopped in a big clash vs All-Sorts. Who wouldve thought All-Sorts would do TEAM LORDY a favour with the rivalry these two franchises share.

Fishbowl South Week 11 MVPs

Sadly you guys miss out on Bainsy's A+ writeups and just get me doing a rush job for the last week.

Whompas Donkeys vs. Gisborne Gladiators 84 - 86

It was a nail biter here with the luckless Donkeys missing out again. Dewey Bowers went crazy for the Asses but there was a distinct lack of support from some players with their PG hitting just 2 points in 48 minutes. They had the chance to win when just two down with five seconds to go:

4 0:05 84 — 86 Free throw missed by M. Tvarijanavicius (A).
4 0:05 84 — 86 Free throw missed by M. Tvarijanavicius (A).
4 0:05 84 — 86 M. Tvarijanavicius (A) hustles for the offensive rebound.
4 0:00 84 — 86 D. Bowers (A) pulls up at the top of the key and takes a shot, guarded closely by G. Sznajder (H). Shot missed.
4 0:00 84 — 86 End of period.

3 Dewey Bowers Whompas Donkeys 51 PTS. Ok he missed the buzzerbeater but anyone who didn't notice him dropping a cool 51 is blind.

2 Gniewosz Sznajder Gisborne Gladiators 25 PTS 8 REB 3 AST 3 BLK 2 STE. Snotman certainly had an all around contribution and spread his phlegm everywhere.

1 António Terroso Gisborne Gladiators 21 PTS 11 REB 3 BLK. Almost identical numbers to Snotman but traded the assists for turnovers.

Darn I was going to be super brief.

Rampaging Marmots vs. Mangoloids 60 - 88

The tanking Marmots with just two real players took on a real team doing quite well this season currently 4th in their division II.

3 Luca Batini Mangoloids 21 PTS 9 REB 8/13 FGS. Only needed 36 minutes to do the job and was very efficient despite being up against one of the two real players.

2 Dan Gardner Rampaging Marmots 29 PTS 17 REB 4 AST. While Barry Ó Daire was shooting his team out of the match Dan was not only efficient but grabbed a game high rebounds.

1 Wazza Tickle Mangoloids 15 PTS 5 AST 4 STE.
Wazza Tickle was pick 27 in the season 11 draft by Chelsea Seagulls.
Obvious pedigree!

TEAM LORDY vs. Eggplantpopolopolous 120 - 129

Interesting to see two teams that don't play "normally" go head to head, we did see Egg play a C at SF but didn't see their trademark full court press. While Egg had a C at SF LORDY had a PG at C. Oh the mismatches. This was a huge match for LORDY and their 4th quarter collapse cost them a place in the league finals. The Egg dominated the rebounds and for some reason 6'0" Underwood playing as a center didn't grab many rebounds (I assume he switched in defence).

3 Roman Peña Eggplantpopolopolous 38 PTS. Shot well and controlled his man well.

2 Ross Underwood TEAM LORDY 56 PTS 7 REB. Scored like a devil but wow, a 4.5 rating, I guess LORDY is really confusing everyone.

1 Nicola Pisanu Eggplantpopolopolous 34 PTS. Wasn't as efficient as Penis but Pissonyou continued the groinal theme well.

Honorable mention: Constantin Serban hit 7/8 for 21 PTS and grabbed 15 rebounds in 26 minutes before fouling out to the constantly driving Underwood.

Fishbowl South Week 11 MVPs (Part Two)

Mad Rangas vs. Home Axis 72 - 89

A great performance by the Rangas to keep this one slightly close against an Axis team that is sitting 3rd in their division II. HAX dominated the rebounds and shot much better if they could turn the ball over less they would have made this a much bigger margin.

3 Philipp Gartmayer Home Axis 22 PTS 19 REB. Really close between these two but Dr. Phil boarded a little better as well as giving some sound marital advice at half time.

2 Melchor Manzanera Home Axis 22 PTS 16 REB. Very close.

1 Fernando Ibarguen Mad Rangas 18 PTS. Only player on the team shooting at a decent percentage.

Possum Chasers vs. Beasts Red 102 - 73

Ex-division IV.7 rivals (the best division IV) show that PP is still a little ahead even if Neeber probably has a better chance of promoting to division II this season. Sometimes life can be cruel.

3 Brent Hargrave Possum Chasers 22 PTS 8 AST 11/12 FGS. Wow at that shooting and I like the quote:

"It is every Aussie players dream to play in the fishbowl PL. I would like to thank PP for putting his team in such huge debt to pay my salary and give me the chance to rock Fishbowl South!"

2 Efe Utku Yurdatap Possum Chasers 27 PTS 7 AST 4 STE. Two $100,000 a week guards in division III? Madness!

1 Trinh Trinh Possum Chasers 21 PTS 15 REB. Sorry Neeber this one was a blowout.

Yarra Park Bears vs. All-Sorts 48 - 129

If you only have three players what would be the worst thing to play? How about run and gun and full court press.

3 Mohd Syamsuri bin Mat Noor All-Sorts 33 PTS 24 REB. No-one else close.

2 Romuald Palierne All-Sorts 18 PTS 20 REB. Ok sort of close.

1 Peni Lucas Yarra Park Bears 17 PTS 4 REB 4 AST 4 STE. Solid all around contribution but the seal on the deal was:

Peni Lucas was pick 4 in the season 12 draft by Chelsea Seagulls.

Ah the sweet pedigree again.
