How about we have a look at some of the more important games coming up on Tuesday night for the promotion hopeful's.

Puffy_jnch (11-5) vs. TeamAkuma (16-0)

The only other time these sides have met was round 2 of the season, when Akuma cleanly dispatched the newly promoted Puffy. As is expected when a first time promotee faces a seasoned division III veteran.

In their first meeting Akuma's Mark Booth led his team to an easy win with 25 points in 28 minutes. However in a down season for Booth where he is only averaging 13.8 PPG, it is unlikely he will be as much a factor as he was in the early season game.

There is no doubt that Clinton Abimbola will be there to pick up the slack for Akuma, despite a quiet outing last time against Puffy with only 13 points. However it has been an outstanding season for the homegrown superstar who has averaged 29.2 PPG in his last 5 league games.

Puffy on the other hand could be looking towards Spanish guard Jorge Torras. Torras has struggled to work his way into the Puffy side this season, having start only 5 games this season. Looking pass that Torras has been big for his team in the last 5 games averaging 20.6 PPG.

Puffy's side has improved greatly over the last 8 weeks or so, but it is too hard to go past Akuma for this game.

My Prediction: Team Akuma by 22

Another game to watch will be this one.

Mitcham Tigers (11-5) vs. Melbourne Demons (15-1)

These sides are seeded 2 & 1 respectively in the Great 8 of III.8. Having played each other 3 times over the last 2 seasons, both managers should have a sound knowledge of the opposition teams. The Demons have been victorious on each of those occasions. However a loss to the Coin Collectors a couple of rounds ago have made the Demons look vulnerable, only just scraping through 78-76 in their last league game.

Demons guard Pericle Melato proved dangerous last time the teams met with 22 points. Melato has been in poor form recently averaging only 7.8 PPG in the last 5. With the drop in production from Melato who was instrumental in the previous win between the two, the Demons might find it hard to keep out the Tigers. Especially with the only 'Respectable' GS of Melato.

The gameshape of Doug Monaghan might also prove pivotal for the Demons. With the powerful PF being huge in their last 5 games with 23.4 PPG, 13.2 RPG, 5.2 APG. Respectable may not be good enough if the Tigers can push them.

For the Tigers, Jesús Echezuría has been important previously vs. the Demons, proving difficult to handle averaging 23.7 PPG in their encounters. A drop in numbers recently for Jesús may worry the Tigers manager a bit. If the Tigers are to challenge, they will need their SF at his best.

There are some GS issues for both sides, which they will need to sort out if they are serious about mounting a challenge to the Coin Collectors. The Demons once again should have too much strength for the Tigers.

My Prediction: Melbourne Demons by 16

Can either side pose a threat to the undefeated Coin Collectors?

Yeah I think Puffy might be an old soul returning to BB as he seems to definitely know what he's doing and I've seen him pull a CT here or there to secure the win. Alas I think Akuma's roster is just too strong and it will be total domination

bainsy, i think you're doing a fantastic job with this thread..its definitely one of my favourites!

I gave puffy a good 60 point thrashing tonight, so hopefully that bumps me up the ladder a little bit. I agree with you guys assessment of his playstyle..he definitely plays like he knows what hes doing. Look at his transfers list..hes made some very tidy profits this season! Look for him to be a danger next season...

It's getting very close to the pointy end of the season...
last minute deals to be made...the glory of championships to dream about... the fear of devastating defeat to be dreaded...

Hmm..that sounded very poetic..I think I'm going to go off and write a new news post for my team :)

cheers dude.

i am quite enjoying seeing how it plays out.

Fishy and Yoda always give div II some spotlight, so i thought it would be good to meet some of the Div III teams floating around

Yeah, Bainsy, I've been giving you a ball a day for a bit now. As akuma said, it's the thread worth reading. Not just because I have a representative from my league but because there are some great Div III teams in OZ and it will be very interesting to see who are still here when the dust settles post season...

There are a lot of talented div3 teams atm... its going to be a scary place soon not only in div2 but in the abbl as well with all these new enthusiastic div3 teams coming thru.

1 human year should do it... that all it takes to get to the abbl.

Well, I'm not one of those talented Div III teams...yet, but I'll be happy enough to be at the pointy end of a Div II league in a human year's time :-)
